Closer than I would have liked really.
To be fair the starting 15 was fairly experimental so there is
always going to be teething problems with new combinations and
certain lads only knowing each other for a few weeks.
Next week I'd like to see us test out our strongest starting 15
against Durham Uni, then test newer players as the game
progresses. Durham are a good side and will ask questions of us.
For the new season we will need to rely on our core team from
last year to carry over the winning momentum and then add in
players where necessary. If we can hit the ground running, bag
some good results early doors that will set us in good stead for
the whole season. The last thing we want to do is change to much
and get caught off guard and moral to drop.
What Sedge did well last season after their promotion was, keep
a core team, add in extra quality and get off to a flying start
early which alleviated the pressure of a dog fight as the season
went on.
If we can do the same then we will be on to a winner.
Look at Caldy, relegated from Nat 1 to Nat 2N. Won Nat 2n then
won Nat 1 and are now in the champ - they kept the same core and
just added in extra spice on top.
Looking forward to next weeks game and the new season. Hopefully
me and Jim can make that one.
Well done lads,
Enjoy your win and everyone who travelled over, have a great
weekend.
Come on Roth!
