Somewhat surprised by the ease in which we beat Leeds. They were
certainly not the force they were last season. Not sure if they
were depleted because of university students not available. They
had also been defeated by Otley the week before in another
preseason match. On their performance I would be surprised if
they gain promotion from 2 North this season. I thought our
defence and line speed was a huge improvement from last year.
There has certainly been a great deal of work done pre season.
The line out didn’t function well at times, certainly 5 meter’s
out, so still more work needs to done. To only be 7 points up at
half time was somewhat disappointing considering our field
position and possession. It will be very interesting, with such
a large squad, what our strongest team is. Looking forward to
the league matches commencing to really gauge how well the team
will fare in the upcoming season.

Very good performance. Defence, in particular, looked really
sharp.
CG asked about new look second row. Big, effective in open play
- the no. 4 put in a couple of very good hits. Line out still a
work in progress; lost a few in the first half. Pretty much all
of the successful completions went to Zak Poole or John Okafor.
Really good to see Jamie Cooke back and looking fit and ready.

The one difference that stood out to me, was pace. In defence,
we were up quick and hard, and in attack, the play was quicker
with much better handling. Yes, it's just one game, but the
signs are good.

All sounds very promising.
Thanks for the update on the Second Row - that is the only area
that I thought would be a bit of an unknown as we have lost key
players there so if the new younger replacements can fill those
boots we will have a very powerful pack again.
I we can maintain our power and dominance up front and match
that with some extra pace and pressure in the backs then we will
have a very exciting squad.
Pre season games are not the same as competitive league games
but to put 40 past Leeds is a very good sign.
It will be interesting to see how we get on in our next games!
