The scoreline was not good, but there were plusses and minuses
from the game.
3 yellow cards from the ref did not help either side to make the
most of the opportunity for pre-season practice. one was for a
no-arm tackle by Ali. (H00ker) The other two, both experienced
championship players, I have no idea.
We played very well for the 1st 15 minutes. Then they scored a
try from a forward pass. 2 more followed within a couple of
minutes.
Lineouts and discipline let us down on occasions, but a new
squad, only training a couple of times a week have a
disadvantage in these areas compared to a 'full-time' squad.
Plenty of positives: our set scrum did not look out of place
with theirs - they have always been big in this area. They were
practising mauls a lot before the game - they only scored one
maul try despite numerous attempts. We made some very big hits
on them in defence. Patrick Shaw, Steven and Brandon Botham got
around 20 minutes, most of it a man down; bodes well for the
future.
For periods of the game we were competitive. Not all doom and
gloom.
