Personally, I don't think Soccer should be shown in a Rugby
Club.

If it brings in some pennies, I'm prepared to overlook it; we
need all we can get at the moment.
Plus if it gets a few people into the clubhouse who don't
usually come, they could come back to watch a game once the
season starts.

I'm not a Soccer fan, but I like to see Rotherham and Leeds
winning their games. I'd like to see Rotherham win both
their League games against Leeds next season. That's the
extent of my Soccer interest, but I agree with setters
comments. Any sport shown on TV that brings people into the
Club is OK with me.
As Setter says, any money spent in the Club is welcome.

Why?
I’m no soccer fan but it’s a sport and many rugby fans and
players follow it.

I'm with you Winger and John, if it gets a couple of people
spending some dosh in the club then happy days.
I do draw the line at gymnastics and figure skating -
categorically not sports....

scoring system is objective rather than subjective for all of
those so definitely sports. If gymnastics counted the number of
somersaults or back flips you did and you did more than someone
else to win, then it would be a sport. Having a scoring system
based on judges opinion of how straight your arms are or how you
point your toe makes it dancing.
Could you imagine conversions being given a variable number of
points depending on how low the kicker crouches, how far he
sticks his arse out, and how high his kicking leg follow through
is?? preposterous......

But when you get awarded a penalty for 3 points it is often
based on the subjective opinion of the referee, for example was
the tackle too high, was the feed straight, did the prop
deliberately collapse the scrum, so I'm not sure I see the
distinction?

That's a very good point Duncan, but that only determines being
given the opportunity to score, the act of scoring is pretty
much cut and dried (I know we've all seen the odd the odd kick
that has been given when its wide and vice versa).
BTW, I'm not belittling Gymnastics or Figure skating - they're
bloody tough, but they're as much a sport as ballroom dancing..
