Premiership clubs seem to be panicking now a few of the big
names are near the relegation slot:
Gloucester head coach Johan Ackermann has spelled out the
benefits that ringfencing the Gallagher Premiership could have
for coach and player development, as well squad stability.
Back in 2013 at the Lions in South Africa, Ackermann oversaw a
relegation-promotion play-off to determine whether his team
would be incorporated into Super Rugby the following year.
Southern Kings, then coached by Worcester Warriors director of
rugby Alan Solomons, were the opponents by virtue of finishing
last in the South African conference.
The Lions, who had themselves been replaced in Super Rugby by
Southern Kings following the 2012 campaign, triumphed 44-42 on
aggregate after a home-and-away head-to-head. Solomons...
