"Otley return to Cross Green after nearly a month away, having
won their away game against Harrogate and Blaydon. On Saturday
they will have a stern test when they play Rotherham Titans, who
sit just one place below them in the league. The South Yorkshire
side are probably still smarting from the defeat they had
against Sheffield Tigers at home, and will be looking to put
their promotion challenge back on track.
The nature of derby games means there is a lot of pride and
passion on show and as this game will be Otley’s seventh out of
what will be 14 Yorkshire derbies this term, they are becoming
accustomed to the demands that each one presents, as too are
Rotherham. The sides last met in what is now the Championship
back in April 2009, although you have to go back to the 2004-05
season to find a win against the Titans - we did the double over
them in that season.
There are strong player links between the two clubs with Luke
Cole, Callum Irvine, Dan Preston-Routledge, Ben Waddington,
Reece Ward joining us at the start of last season. Rotherham
have Charlie Capps and Gareth Denman playing for them on
Saturday, both of whom have played for Otley before. Henry
Roberts also had a spell at the Titans before returning home.
Both sides will know what is facing them.
Otley have made a couple of changes from the side that beat
Blaydon. Ethan Thiart is in the front row, Brett Mitchell in the
second row, and Brandon Staples returns to his No 8 spot. Gavin
Stead comes in at centre whilst Duncan Darling is on the right
wing.
