       Crx build here it goes...
       By: Bowchicka777 Date: March 9, 2012, 1:09 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Here's my CRX build page, I didn't post a lot of pics through
this process so I'll take some from now on
Well I've always liked CRX's, of course you can't totally kick
the backend sideways in one but the efficiency is brilliant
       (unlike a cornfed evo)
so to start this story off once upon a time I talked my buddy
into buying a CRX a long time ago, this beauty right here
       [IMG]

had a full ls b series swap which at the time I didn't know a
whole lot about but it seemed pretty cool, bought it off a
sketchy mexican dude with blonde dreads but we didn't really
       care
cluster didn't work, springs were horrible and the shocks were
fucked, had a ghetto rigged back seat (wood + padding + leather
sheet + heavy duty staples) which we took out and is still
       sitting in my garage
long story short ended up being a lot more trouble than what it
was worth, so he sold it, and went on to getting the infamous
riced out red hatchback that showed up to the Sunday meet (I'm
sure Rob and Steven remember) blaring it's sound system equipped
with two 15" Subwoofers in a fiberglass casing that strectched
from the center console to the rear of the hatch. That was
traded for a passat and yada yada thats another story
So I still retained the love for the CRX but wanted one that
wasn't a COMPLETE POS (which is incredibly hard to find) and I
       found one
at least close enough to what I was aiming for. This was found
       in the ghetto of Euless.
(this is when we got back, didn't want to stick around that part
       of town too long)

1989 CRX SI, surprisingly stock which was the biggest appeal to
me. Working sunroof (needed some WD40 which it got a treatment
to) A/C, and the original motor, airbox, and all the original
sound deadening which was a clear sign it hadn't been that
fucked with. But of course it did have some problems
only 3 cylinders were firing, tested by pulling the spark plugs
       out one by one
A/C button thing is broke, buttons work just plastic broke
the front end is from a 90-91, which can easily be spotted by
the size of the trim on the side of the car and the not faded
       white pinstriping
       hood's a bit bent
       hail damage
       broken cluster
After haggling for a half hour with the guy he came down just a
tad, not as much as I wanted for a motor that was only firing on
3 cylinders but I didn't want to miss out on the car,
So I took it for 1900 and Jorge drove it home following behind
       me.
after several hours of troubleshooting, we found it was just a
faulty spark plug (big thanks to Jorge for pointing this out)
after a good seafoam treatment it ran fantastic, started up
instantly everytime, infact much faster than the evo
       in jorge's garage
       [IMG]

So one day I decide to drive to denton in the CRX, the gf's
sorority fundraiser was $5 unlimited taco's and I couldn't miss
       out on that.
and the trip back turned into a nightmare, radiator hose started
leaking + broken cluster = overheated fucked up head and crx
spending the night at the gas station
Big thanks to Angel by the way for sticking around and helping
       me push it.
So I wasn't going to let my car just sit forever so I decided
while I needed to replace the head I would try this mini-me swap
so many D-Series owners of old honda's do..
Basically A mini me swap is a vtec head on a non vtec engine
block, more specifically a d16z6 or a Y8. Along with the head
the car needs to be converted to OBD1 to run properly and have
access to vtec, or it can be done by a cheap rpm switch but your
motor would be a vtec motor running on a non vtec ecu's basemap.
So why Vtec? uhh because racecar.....jk
30ish hp gain, from 100 to 130 with slightly better gas mileage,
so all around improved efficiency, basically what I'm going for.
So I opted for the Z6 head, here's jorge working his honda motor
magic (some shit was bent that we had to replace from a spare
       head he had)
  HTML http://i42.tinypic.com/2117vo6.jpg[/img]
And after two nights of jorge's honda voodoo and me helping when
       I could it's alive again!
and btw that's condensation from inside the exhaust from when I
horrible overheated my engine, we replaced the headgasket on the
       new head, I promise.

so it runs off the old ecu without vtec fine, it is sitting in
the garage waiting for this weekend's obd1 swap which includes
       obd1 distributor
       obd1 ECU (p28 from a manual D16z6)
now added 4 wire 02 sensor
and all the appropriate conversion harnesses for the above,
       supplied by Rywire
       more pics soon after conversion
