Wow, that's some drive for a car meet. If anything I would
HIGHLY recommend you come out to Cobb in Plano, TX or Austin, TX
for their meet. You'll learn so much about your car you'd sell
your first born just to get started on modding. Cobb Tuning is
one of the top tuners for the Evo and WRX/STI in the USA.
Well, everyone gets excited when modding, so I'll give you some
key tips:
If your going to buy used parts from other subaru owners (which
is fine), try not to buy parts that you can't determine if its
in working condition or not. For example, if someone is selling
an aftermarket BOV that holds more boost than the stock BOV,
don't buy it. Chances are the reason they are selling it is
because it leaks. Same goes with injectors, fuel pumps, fly
wheel, clutch, and small things like that needs to run perfectly.
These are all things you want to buy brand new.
Things you can buy regardless miles or wear and tear on it:
Intercooler (check for dings or holes), Intercooler pipes,
intake, exhaust manifold (check for cracks), intake manifold
(check for cracks), turbo back exhaust (check for dings, holes
or rust), or basically all the stuff that just directs air flow.
You can buy a used STI turbo if you ever plan to swap for a
bigger turbo for more power, but I would send it to Forced
Performance to get checked out first. All subaru's have the
same motor and turbo except the STI. It has the same motor with
a few different components plus a bigger turbo. I think it also
has a better drivetrain, but I'm not sure. Forced Performance
is actually located in Mckinney, TX, so they are local. If they
find anything wrong with the turbo, they'll fix it for you for
little to no cost. Also the turbo examination is free.
If you plan to go anything bigger than an STI turbo, be prepared
to spend some major cash. The only reason I didn't go with a
WRX or STI was because mods get retarded expensive after a few
initial upgrades.

yeah haha I didn't know there were meets in austin?? that
wouldn't be too bad a drive... and would probably make it a
couple of times out of the month... I do plan on modding as soon
as I can but just quit work to go to school full time so my
modding will be slowly but surely productive. All these tips are
greatly appreciated. I will make sure to post questions before I
actually buy something expensive.
I didn't know I would be able to tune my car without having any
mods. Would that be a smart decision? And what are some websites
where I'd be able to buy for ex. intake or bov for a start.
This is actually my second turbocharged car.. My previous was
also a subaru wrx but an 08 model.. This 2011 model has such a
better shift, smoother clutch, better sound, and picks up a lot
quicker. I do eventually plan on upgrading to the sti turbo but
was looking to get as many mods that I can before ever upgrading
to a bigger turbo.

Check these sites out if you want a good idea of the power
you'll make with what mods after a tune. As you may already
know, this isn't an N/A car, so you can't just throw mods on it.
Accessport may be a good investment. Check this site out for
more details:
HTML http://cobbtuning.com/products/?id=5611
If you want to see what kind of power you'll be running with
whatever mods you can check out tunes Cobb already did here:
HTML http://accessecu.com/dyno/
Just keep it at All Shops, Subaru, Impreza WRX, pick your years
or just hit all years, then pick a persons name to see their
mods and gains after a pro tune. Cobb usually saves these maps,
so if you go with similar mods to any of these people, Cobb with
just send it to you through email and you can load it into your
accessport. You can even use the maps that already set up on
the accessport, just go back to that first link for more info.

mess with anything haha...

Welcome bro. I knew a guy who had a 2011 WRX. He had a catback
exhaust, intake and tune from Cobb in Plano (access port) and he
spanked nearly anyone that i saw race him. over 400 lbs of
torque. crazy launch. Definitely a nice car to have to mod. Of
course you would tell him to go to Cobb, Kris lol
