       Studley park

I went to study park especially to see if I could spot any
wildlife I don't see in my local vicinity and it didn't
disappoint. This was my first time spotting herons in the wild!
They definitely have a kind of mystique that I don't feel about
some of the more ordinary suburban birds I see everyday,
especially when they stretched out their full neck- and
wingspans. It was raining by the water and both of these birds
were hunkering down in place, necks retracted and completely
still, for most of the time we were watching them, so it was
pretty exciting for me to watch them take off!

I'm at a total loss as to what these little birds (parrots?
finches?) were but they were extremely interesting. There was a
whole group of them in the grass, hopping around and pecking at
the dirt (eating what I'm not sure) and curiously they were all
really neatly paired off into male/female pairs - if one of the
birds from a pair headed off in one direction, the other one
would quickly follow. It was pretty entertaining to watch them
arrange and rearrange themselves and we stayed watching them for
a while - it's just interesting to see animals behave in such a
       regimented and orderly way socially!
