Often I see a little yellow robin hopping about in my back yard.
About seven inches long, he has a grey back and head and a
bright yellow breast. I often leave crumbs out on the wall or on
the window sill. Sometimes he drinks the water from the dog’s
dish, so I made him a bird-bath. There aren’t many about at
present, but I think perhaps they’ll come back in the spring.

Some time ago, while my mate and I were on the Sorrento pier, we
saw a fairy penguin darting about in the water. I was surprised
at the speed it was travelling as it chased shoals of little
white-bait, catching them very easily. It was about sixteen
inches long with a shiny black back and webbed feet that pushed
       the water away very strongly.

One day Keith and I were climbing up to our tree hut. As we
climbed, a big bird flew from a thick clump of branches. Keith
jumped down and watched it as it alighted in another tree. I
looked about to see where it had been perching and I found a
flat stick nest with three little light grey birds in it. When I
jumped down, the bird returned to the tree. It was a tawny
       frogmouth.
