       Art's traditional concern with originality and exceptionality
       faded as reprintability and the ubiquity of the image became the
       priority. During both world wars, states invested in printed
       materials that encouraged nationalism and support for the war,
       and hostility toward the enemy. Then as today, the real horror
       of war was underestimated, if it was portrayed at all, and the
       key was the glory of the just cause (along with the monstrosity
       of the enemy). Technological advances have influenced the
       content of war art as well as its production and distribution.
       Industrial ideas of progress have often gone hand in hand with
       warmongering: the sense of human superiority over nature,
       patriarchal and white supremacist ideas, and nationalism.
