Blood moon over Glastonbury.
By: Rothers Date: June 24, 2016, 3:45 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Itchy feet. Led me to phoning the farmer let him know I'm
travelling down to go lamping.
He told me not to leave till I take at least 24 bunnies.
Well it hy feet got the better of me.
No research had been done.
I forgot the previous night was the longest day.
The moon was reddish and high in the sky. I had made
arrangements that I couldn't break.
It turned into a bit of a disastrous night. Firstly I took the
wrong turning and ended up half hour away in the Somerset
countryside.
**** I discover I left my pellets in the house back home.
Therefore I had limited pellets from an old tin of different
brand. Not all peelers have the same weight so they act
differently.
Then my Gortex boot decided it had had enough miles and started
to leak.
11:30 I was still walking about a 500 acre farm lamp unaided.
Watching the bunnies run.
First rabbit sitting proud.
Click, zip. And watched the illuminated pellet fly over the
rabbit by a foot.
Gutted and swallowing my pride.
Then my lamp decide to flicker. Poor connection or faulty
battery. I was ready to wrap up and head back up the M5.
Another sitter spotted zip and another miss.
Another spotted takes the kneeling down position in a cold cow
turd. (Of luck).
Zipp 40 yards and flopped over white belly on show.
One in the Bag. I'm happy and ready to go home.
12:00 it's time to walk back , work in the morning see.
Another standing up takes a .177 cal to the temple ,blood oozing
out its ears. The pellet had completely penetrated the head
leaving the opposite side.
A few more were taken on the way back.
Ended with a nice little evening out with my Weihrauch Hw100kt.
Will return with all issues addressed next time.

Have you tried night vision Steve. What it the little lamp like,
does it have a red filter. I need to get my NV sorted out, its
just a add on, having a few problems with it.

Yes mate I have a night vision set up.
Merlin cobra.
Shooting With a nite vision is a complete new ball game.
Shooting in low light, daytime. Is pretty easy for judging
distance.
Using a lamp is a bit more technical. Using a Nv set up is like
looking at a photo. It's very hard to judge distance.
Unless you know the land you are shooting or set out markers
it's a task.
It's a gut feeling when you miss a shot, even worse when a
rabbit gets winged. It's a case of dispatching as quickly as
possible.
Little lamp I got I bought off EBay. For 25quid. Red filter is
very low. Green filter is good.
My other lamp I have an orange filter. It's a cluson had it for
years. Had plenty on the alternative colours.
If the place is being lamped by others.
