       Lois Lerner

Apparently Lois Lerner took the 5th over and over in a new round
of IRS hearings this morning. Almost seems to me hired
government (as opposed to elected)employees should be placed
under a different legal system, something similar to military
       UCMJ with no 5th amendment.
Just think the peoples right to know what was done in our name
       trumps any government workers rights.

The hearing was great political theater. Cummings came in
complete with faux outrage and broke protocol. I keep asking
myself though, if she did nothing wrong, as she insisted on in
the first hearing, (before claiming the fifth) and if there
isn't a "smidgeon of wrongdoing", as President Obama claims
(this of course comes months after his initial outrage upon
hearing about the targeting), what possible reason could there
       be for claiming the fifth?

There is only two reasons for het to take the fifth.
       One.... to hide her guilt.
Two.... to protect someone else. Obama
She should be thrown in jail until she is willing to talk.

I agree, but doesn't have to be a separate legal system. It
just needs to expand the open meeting laws that now exist to
include everything government employees, and elected government
officials, do regarding their position/job. There is no need
for secrecy in anything they do. Look at the mess in New Jersey
with emails being redacted. The explanation for the redactions
was the information was irrelevant to the work the employees
were doing, so if it was irrelevant, why were they doing it.
Lawyers will argue over the need to have some discussions
private, so these people can speck their minds freely, but if
what they are saying in private to make decisions is that
embarrassing so there is a need to keep it from the public, I'd
don't know that person should have a job or be elected to their
       position.
Nothing is debated on he floor of Congress anymore, the party
leaders get together behind close doors and make decisions, and
then just make announcements about what has been decided. We
should have a better idea what everyone says about an issue, to
weed out the people that are truly holding up the government
       from functioning better.

Thrown in jail for exercising her constitutional rights? That
sounds kinda Obama-ish, doesn't it? Maybe put a drone on her
       tail too?
I don't think removing the 5th amendment rights from government
employees would change anything. Instead of remaining silent
they'd just lie, or pull the old standby "I cannot recall".
Tougher sunshine laws requiring everything the government says
or does be made public- and stiff penalties for violations-
would be a good start. "Closed door" meetings and such should
       not exist.

Lois Lerner is getting paid quite a hefty pension, presumably to
keep her mouth shut. Perhaps it should be suspended until this
investigation is complete. I will ask again, if she and all
others at the IRS were and are innocent how can truthful
       testimony be incriminating?

Yeah your right ...she has that constitutional right.
But what about the constitutional rights of those conservative
groups that were targeted by the IRS?
But this has to be investigated. And anyone found to be guilty
       must be held accountable.

Correct, it's not fair to take away her rights after he thought
nothing of taking away the rights of others. That would make
Congress no better than she is.

Unless it is the whole truth, and there is the possibility of
one person not having the whole truth to give, her testimony
could make her look guilty when she is not.
That is the whole purpose of the fifth amendment.

Yep, absolutely. I peronally think the IRS needs to be
dismantled, their secondary purpose as presidential goon squad
       being one major reason.
