Yes we made it.
I went into my jewelry box the other day and I pulled out the
bracelet my Mom made for me that was made out of the toys that
used to come out of gum machines. There is a gun on there and a
pack of smokes too!

I remember playing with mercury. It used to be called
quicksilver back in the day. It was great fun!!

Our boy scout leader/pharmacist used to always have cups of
mercury to play around with--it was fun

I can recall walking to school with my .22 and using it foe
show-and-tell.

when we took our rifles to school(when walking) had to leave
them in "the office" until we picked them up after school to
head down the RR tracks to the town dump to shoot some rats or
tin cans

Yup. And thinking about it....the upside was a lot less (if any)
graffiti on the boxcars. :)

There was an interesting point made in that movie and that is we
used to make up games. I do not think kids are that creative
now. I watch 2 kids awhile back and they did not know how to
play.
I remember some cool running games and I can't remember how some
of them went. Does anyone remember how to play red light-green
light anymore?

WE had one we called "one o'clock and the ghost ain't here"
Played it at night in the dark.
Lived in the country so we had large yards.
One person was the designated the ghost and he went and hide
somewhere along the designated route around the house to the
safe spot. Then we all went as a group on that route. We all
would chanted as we went "one o'clock and the ghost ain't here,
two o'clock and the ghost ain't here" and so on till the ghost
jumped out and tried to catch someone. The person caught became
the ghost for the next round. Silly game, but it was suspenseful
and exciting for a small kid.
In the winter we had a game called "Fox and goose". Where we
made paths in the snow. A maze. It had dead ends in some of the
path ways. One person was the fox and the rest geese. The fox
chased after the geese until he caught one. and then that person
was the fox. The only rule..
There was also "Red rover" You could never run out of a
pathway.
And of course Kick the Can"
And then there was "King of the mountain" in the winter on the
huge pile of snow next to the church and school parking lot.
You don't see kids playing games like any more. Haven't for a
long time now.

It's not only outside playing that seems to have changed. Last
year, I was observing two, 5 year old kids playing 'house' while
inside at school. (a girl and a boy)
girl: let's pretend that you're my boyfriend and this is my
baby.
boy: OK. And I'm a policeman.
girl: OK. And let's pretend somebody took my baby and you have
to find them.
boy: Yeah. We'll pretend it was your other boyfriend that took
the baby.
Btw: anyone remember freeze-tag?
