Wisconsin DNR's new lottery
DIR By: Jeepers

---------------------------------------------------------
MADISON - A lottery is now underway to give 100 lucky Wisconsin
landowners a free records review to determine if their property
is home to any of the state's rarest plants and animals.
Normally, such an endangered resources review runs about $150
and involves a search of existing records, but the state's
Natural Heritage Conservation Program wants to encourage
landowners to find out what's on their property and, if there
are rare plants and animals, provide landowners with
recommendations on how to protect and enhance habitat for those
species, says Erin Crain, who leads the program, formerly called
the Endangered Resources program, for the Department of Natural
Resources. Read on....

Really??? I sure wouldn't want the DNR snooping around my
property looking for rare plants or animals. Would you enter
this lottery? If so why?

If they DO find rare plants and animals, do the homeowners have
to vacate the property, dismantle their house and and restore
the land to it's former, natural state so as to preserve the
habitat?
Erm.....no thanks.

Find one endangered animal or plant on your land an report it to
the DNR and you will have given up any say in what you can do on
your own property again.. FOREVER.
Want cut some trees?
Want dig a pond?
Want to build on favorite spot.
Want to put a service road in?
Not going to happen after that.

I just have to wonder how many people would want to sign up for
this. How stupid does the DNR think we are? But then
again...there are many stupid people. Hmmmm.

I have a rare animal on the property south of me. It is called
Dufus the Next Door Neighbor. It does not need protecting. I
wish I could find a way to remove it.

Who knows, maybe it is the same one!
The Dufus appeared friendly today but I don't think it had time
to consume its daily dose of Miller yet.

Have you tried putting a can of Miller into a live trap and
relocating the varmint?

I hear the native environment is a strip club. Probably will be
happy if you let 'em go there.

I never knew that! Then a can of Miller and a Hustler would
probably work better. KY optional.
