Charcoal on a metal trash can lid to heat a frozen engine is
an old Yoooper trick.
Gotta be careful you don't have fluid leaks though!

Well, THIS dumbass decided to run her car during lunch....and
managed to lock my keys in my RUNNING CAR!

Not sure if it is simply folklore or not: but being one of those
crazy Finns, I was taught, unless you actually intend to drive
your car at noon, it's more of a draw on the battery than
anything else to start it up in the middle of the work day.
Making sure I have a good battery and also turned off the fan
and radio, I have never gone out to start my car in the middle
of the day.

Hahaha. I have a story you'll probably enjoy then.
Some years back I got my car stuck at a work site. I had parked
close to the building, so I got the brilliant idea to start the
car, put it in gear, then put my back against the building and
foot on the bumper- and shove.
It worked! Car got unstuck and began to move forward.
Then the driver's door I purposely left open slammed shut and
the automatic door locks- locked.
So I'm chasing the stupid thing across the lot, can't get in the
locked door. Finally crawled in the back hatch and climbed into
the driver's seat just in time to run into the ditch on the
other side of the parking area. 'Stuck again. <sigh>
See what fun we'd miss if we lived in Arizona? :)

Lol. Good story. Btw: Arizona does have its' own problems, if
you live below the Mogollon Rim area. (Phx/Tucson). You could
substitute heat for the times people leave the a/c on in an
unattended car, it slips out of gear and into the side of a
house. I never had a/c driving only motorcycles. But, I did
have a house.... :(

plan one for this winter?

Well folks, as far as the National media in concerned, the polar
vortex cold wave is over. It is still pretty cold even though
for first time in over 80 consecutive hours the temperature got
above the zero degree mark. Useless trivia; for the past three
days if someone would have asked you, "How cold is it in
Siberia?" you could have truthfully answered, "Not as cold as it
is here!"

I just drove by NEPCO Lake and there does not seem to be as many
ice shacks on it as in previous years.
