-25 this morning. A little more than a slight wind. I can hear
the wind chimes. It's been a very long time since I've seen
that cold.

I agree, Trolly! I don't get it...it's been this cold before!
Stores closing? Come on!!!!
[/quote]
I don't ever remember "stores" closing do to it being too cold,
but I do recall one year (1994, 1995, or 1996 I think) when the
Wood County Court House closed itself down for a day! 8)
As cold as it is I can not help but wonder if the Packer game
being played yesterday may have persuaded some decision makers
to give the "postpone" order. I am thinking there are a lot of
sad people sleeping in this morning! ;)

I grew up in ND in the days before windchill was invented ;)
as much as i remember always walked to school--school was closed
for bllizzards and when the rural schools were consolidated and
school buses started working there were days when only the town
kids had school----it must have been at least this cold/windy
but you just put another scarf on and put your head down and
walked forward

It must be cold because in Pittsville, one cafe closed and the
other was still only half empty at 5:00. That is remarkable
because of the monthly $1.00 hamburger/ $2.00 cheeseburger
special. Usually, that place is at its busiest for that. Did you
ever think you would see the day when the cold would beat out
inexpensive dining?

One of them is tucked in south of the two story bar. The bar had
a naughty nickname at one time if that makes it easier for you.

Yes, and one is for sale. As for the other, perhaps that should
be discussed in another thread. :)
As if two cafes and taverns serving food were not enough, there
are plans to build a SUBWAY on a vacant lot north across the
street of the UCC.
