Just when you thought it might me safe to local paper again...
:o
Gannet is paying $280,000,000 to buy Journal Media Group which
owns THE MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL.
Now, just think about this USA TODAY, WAUSAU DAILY HERALD,
MARSHFIELD NEWS HERALD, WISCONSIN RAPIDS DAILY TRIBUNE and THE
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL will all have the same owner. Your
choice of daily newspapers has just become a Dobson's choice!

Lol. Haven't subscribed for years. Which is the underlying
problem....nobody does anymore.
The average newspaper subscriber is likely in their late 60's,
the demographic no advertising agency wants.
NY Daily news was up for sale. Highest bidder bid $1. Yep, One
Dollar.
And then withdrew their bid!

I really miss newspapers!! Even in our small town in ND had a
morning and evening paper delivered and 3 papers every
Sunday---kinda like USA Today when traveling but it isn't any
better then the evening news for real reporting

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal is doomed. Gannet will now run
that in to the ground like it did to all our local papers.

I blame Thompson as much or more than Gannet for the state of
the Tribune. The Huffman family ran a pretty good paper. They
sold to Thomson and that's when things started to head downhill.
Bill Huffman's wife Phyllis just passed away about a week ago.
It's a shame that biz didn't stay in the family.
