If they thought it was explosive they need to be charged with
negligence for not evacuating the students.

Thought crime? You really want go down that road?
[quote author=rapids_60 link=topic=1507.msg20990#msg20990

Lol...except poke around is exactly what they did.
The first teacher told him to "put it away" and not show his
other teachers. The next few passed it back and forth until
finally setting it on a desk and waiting there with Mohammed
until police arrived.
.
I had no idea that PERFECT BOMB DETECTION AND PERFECT CRISIS
MANAGEMENT was mandatory! :o
Bottom line; For someone who is smart enough to build a clock
out of electrical spare parts it seems pretty dumb to not try to
make a clock LOOK LIKE A CLOCK. ::)
For some reason I find myself thinking about that terrible Tim
Allen Movie (I know that doesn't narrow things down much) BIG
TROUBLE. (2002)
"its a compact garbage disposal unit" in a briefcase?

It isn't all that difficult WMD. Has nothing to do with thought
police.
If they thought it was a bomb, the procedure is, in probably
any school on the planet, to evacuate the school and have the
bomb disposal unit deal with it.
If they did NOT think it was a bomb, then don't charge the kid
with building one.
Can't have it both ways, yet that is exactly what they are
trying to do.
The more I look at the pics, the kid didn't really build
anything. That is a digital clock that he's simply removed from
it's original housing and put into another. Nothing about it is
handmade.

So then why did he believe he had something to show off to his
teacher. If all he did was remove the clock from its housing.
He is suppose to be this wizard with electronics. I still think
he knew exactly what would happen. this was a set up to bring
about a reaction and outrage.

Now I may be reading the story wrong but the police knew it was
not a bomb but were questioning him for carrying an item made to
look like a bomb., that's the reason there was not evacuation.
Don't we constantly have PSAs telling people to be vigilant. I
wonder if I had an item similar to what this student had and
pulled it out during a rally for Hillary, or tried to bring it
on my tour of the WH if they would think nothing of it? The
police were merely trying to determine what the boys intentions
were he was not forthcoming. Erring on the side of safety the
restrained him. I wonder if this same boy had been a pasty faced
white boy and similarly arrested if he would be getting a visit
to the WH?

I have been thinking about the same thing, more or less, ever
since this story broke. My guess would be something along the
lines of POLICE AND SCHOOL BRAVELY DIFFUSE POTENTIAL SCHOOL
BOMBING BY "MISUNDERSTOOD" SMART KID SEEKING VENGEANCE BY A
POTENTIAL COLUMBINE INCIDENT! angle. ::)

Lol. Not forthcoming? Is that like yelling"stop resisting"
when you are already on the ground in handcuffs?
He told them exactly what it was and why he brought it. They
simply didn't like his answers.
Oh...they didn't believe it was a "hoax bomb" either, but
arrested him anyway.
The police tell local news outlets that while they
acknowledge that Mohamed didn't try to perpetrate a bomb hoax,
they were also unsatisfied with his explanation.
"He would simply only tell us that it was a clock," police
spokesman James McLellan says.
Yeah you dumbshits...that's because it IS a clock, lol. Oh and
still no apology from them on the violation of the kid's legal
rights.

That's a good question. The answer is probably no.
Here's another question since we're speculating:
If he were a pasty faced white boy, would he have been arrested
at all?

The argument of why didn't they evacuate the school if they
thought it was a bomb makes no sense. They also didn't make kids
hide under their desks when the pop tart got chewed into the
shape of a gun.
I think the pop tart incident was a typical innocent kid
thing....this clock made to look like a bomb was intentional to
stir up trouble.

NO comparing an exhibit in a science fair to this but when
grasping for straws to show some outrage I guess you take what
you can get.
I also see quite a bit of misreporting in this story , like
claiming he wanted to impress his teacher and when he showed it
to her she freaked, well actually he brought in a digital clock
made from circuit boards and wires he threw together the night
before. He showed it off to an engineering teacher who told him
to keep it to himself (he should have listened). Later, in
English class, the clock sounded off from inside his bag that
that is the teacher when she saw it who was concerned. And as
far as your claim of the boy explaining what it was according to
the police the only thing he would say was that it was a clock.
not quite what you claim. In this day of school shootings,
bombings and other mayhem going on in a school do you think
erring on the side of caution was wrong? That the person who was
the student happened to be dark skinned well was that the reason
or coincidence.
By the way do you think this boy and his family will be required
to go thru a security check when they meet the president? If so
why?
I guess in this case I agree with Bill Maher
