Sandra Bland arrest, good police work or was it abuse
By: p2_d Date: July 29, 2015, 1:42 pm

I have pretty much been on the side of the Police in most of
these cases, but this one is quite troublesome. Seems like the
Officer instead of trying to diffuse a tense situation did
everything he could to make a bad situation worse. From what I
read, you are not required to extinguish a cigarette in your
car. The whole reason for stopping this woman while a traffic
violation hardly warrants the excessive force the officer used.

Yep. Officer Hothead should've diffused the situation instead
of asserting his authori-tah over an issue he had no right to
control.
Once he told her to get out of the car, she is required to.
That's where she went wrong. The SC has ruled that even if the
stop is illegal, you are required to exit the car if asked. You
can sue the department for the wrongful stop later.

What exactly is a "wrongful stop"? He had every right in the
world to stop her. She is lawfully supposed to comply. The
fact that she killed herself in jail, (and allegedly had
previous suicide attempts in the past) shows you weren't dealing
with the most stable person in the world. Just like the cop who
killed the guy in Cinci. He had every right in the world to
stop him. It doesn't matter if you agree with the law or not,
it's the law.

Time after time though, the law is over ruled by precedence.
Look, if a white guy said he was going to kill some black
people, he would be arrested with several charges. We now have
black people yelling "kill the cracker and and all the cracker
babies" with not even a peep out of law enforcement. We have a
sitting mayor who committed a felony and was not charged with
the crime. The more we let people get away with things, the
harder it will be to obtain a state that the law matters.

I didn't say this stop was wrongful and it wasn't. I said the SC
has ruled in the past that the place to protest a wrongful stop
is not during the stop but at the courthouse the next morning.
ie: she has to get out of the car when asked, even if the
officer is in the wrong for asking.

Steve, the lack of respect for the law is so ingrained in our
government I've basically lost hope it will ever change. At
least not in my lifetime. When government doesn't follow the law
neither do the governed.
Worse, half the friggin' population defends or ignores illegal
acts by our elected reps when it's their guy/gal committing
them.
Warrantless search and wiretapping? Detention without
representation? Drone attacks against American citizens?
Waterboarding (which we defined as torture for decades) IRS
and EPA used as attack dogs, administrative forfeitures against
citizens who try to lawyer up against the feds.... good grief
the list is now so long I can't remember it all.
The only way this will get fixed is if we start making examples
of those at the very top when they step over the line.
Hillary's email fiasco? Prison. Every signer of the "patriot
act"? Prison. And keep it up until they get the message.

Te family is suing everyone involved. Autopsy says suicide.
But she would never do that, despite the fact she had in the
past. I know, I know. Black lives matter.

IMHO that's probably the best thing that can happen. Discovery
will take place, evidence will become public and the truth will
come out. Without that people will speculate forever.

Evidence has come out. In todays digital video society much of
her time, since being stopped, to being arrested, to being
jailed is already caught on video. She has a history of suicide
attempts in the past. Those in cells near her stated there was
nobody else around. Autopsy states death by suicide. I'm not
exactly sure what's missing.
