is it art, or profiting off of racism?

I will go see this exhibit the next time I am down there. Find
the discussion of this exhibit interesting, some find it
exploitive, and that only a black person can understand the
experience. sounds like a form of reverse racism to me. And I
read there were death threats against the artist, come on.

The creative side in me says art can be anything.
Is this art nice or morally right? No.
Should it be publicly displayed. No.

What bothers me. Is people keep portraying Michael Brown as
"angel" or a victim.
When the true facts are he was a criminal who died while in a
violent attack of a police officer.

But you have to take into consideration the liberals mind set.
Honoring a violent criminal. Or displaying a crucifix in glass
of urine is acceptable.
But a Confederate battle flag is not.
Only certain people are allowed to be offended.
Only certain people's feelings count.
Only certain lives matter.

I do understand what you are saying here. If this was the
reverse it would be considered racism.

I agree that it's pure hypocrisy here. Had it been MLK in a
jar of urine the feds would be investigating.
No government space, time or money should go to any of this. I
was hopping mad that taxpayer money supported Andres Serrano's
trash. I get the free speech argument, but the government's job
is to protect that speech, not pay for it.

I think this display is awful. If it were MY loved one who had
laid face-down on the pavement, this would upset me greatly.
And a crucifix in a glass of urine is despicable, too. If
someone doesn't believe in religion they should at least respect
the feelings of those who do.

Linda
It is my understanding that Michael Browns mother gave her
permission to use his likeness. She also was the first to view
the exhibit
Rapids
I remember back in the 80s a student painted a picture of then
Mayor Washington in women's undies, several alderman went to the
student gallery and had the police remove the painting.

This is not "art." This is the art world's equivalent of the
Howard Stern show...shock value.
