       Sport at La Crosse Fair

Wow, I have no idea what genre this topic fits into. I just
thought it was interesting. Some folks do anything to get their
jollies. It reminds me of when the tavern in Finley would grease
up a pig and have people try to catch it.
Sport at La Crosse Fair Tasks Dogs to Find Rats in Haystack
WEST SALEM, Wis. (AP) -- A sport coming to this year's La Crosse
Interstate Fair is challenging dogs to sniff out rats hidden
       among stacks of hay.
The La Crosse Tribune reports the sport called "Barn Hunt" is
making its debut at the fair, which opens Wednesday in West
Salem. The sport is a take on how some dog breeds were used to
get rid of rats and other vermin on farms and ships.
Dogs taking part in Barn Hunt are tasked with finding a rat
that's in a plastic pipe placed in a haystack obstacle course.
There are also two decoy pipes, one with rat litter and one
       that's empty.
The sport is part of a 4-H Club project to teach members about
       dog behavior, training and health.

I guess as long as there is no direct contact made between the
rats and dogs and there is no chance of the rats getting loose.
I don't see any problem with it.

       Ok then!
So what is your opinion on greased pigs? I say use some Dawn
dish soap. It will get rid of the germs and make the slip
       sliding a whole lot easier.
Seriously, I can't stand it when animals are used for
       entertainment like that.

I am not all that keen on the greased pig thing. That's more
then likely pretty frightening for the pigs. Most people would
just say "Please don't scare the bacon"
       Germs and pigs?? LOL

As for the dogs. The dogs love doing that stuff. They enjoy it.
Ever see video clips of dachshund races. Same kind of thing.
They love it. It's fun for them.

Now there is another example of people getting their jollies.
"Pick a Pig," a.k.a. "David's house of Pork."

My meaning behind "Germs and pigs" was that pigs thrive on food
garbage that is full of germs. They live in a germ infested
       environment.
David's House of Pork. I am the person who coined that title. I
       originated it.
I used to live there on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday nights.
Everyone called David Harold's Pick A Pig. I hated it being
called that. So one night I said that on Saturdays it was to be
called David's House of Pork .
That Saturday nights were classier because of all the women
coming in after wedding receptions were all dress up.

Well I only entered that establishment twice and I don't know
what day of the week it was. I wanted to see bands preform
       instead.
I see that the Pelots Tavern has been razed. That used to be fun
in the late 70's because of the good bands that played there on
the summer nights. It was so small but it managed to fit people.
Other than that I went out to Plainfield to watch the Zakons
       play.
