You can repeatedly enter and remove information over and over
enough times so that the first information can no longer be
read. It was described as like erasing a black board and
writing over it and repeating that process many times. So
finally the original information can no longer be made out.
I've done this since Wang terminal and Winchester drive days,
lol so: Erasing data 101:
When you "erase" computer data, it isn't really erased, it's
simply hidden.
In Microsoft based systems, the first character of the file name
is changed to Hex E5h, which hides the file. The space is then
marked as available for reuse. Other OS's work in similar
fashion.
It is only overwritten with new data when the system actually re
uses that disk space. With large disks that may not happen for
weeks, months..years..
You can Undelete, even Unformat these drives with pretty good
success.
I've actually removed an operating system, unformatted the
drive and recovered old data for a car dealer with a
disgruntled employee that wiped their payroll and tax records.
There are "eraser" type programs that overwrite that data one
or more times to make it unrecoverable. Your Chalkboard example.
The consumer versions overwrite in identifiable patterns that
can be undone by a capable forensic analyst.
A conspiracy theorist might say that's intentional, so while
you feel secure and you might have thwarted identity thieves,
the government can recover your "erased" data if they really
want to.
The better erasers, including Guttman, the military standard for
years, overwrite with multiple passes of purely random data.
They leave no pattern to undo.
Even those erasures can sometimes be undone in a lab capable of
reading the residual magnetism at the edge of the data tracks.
The number of labs capable of that are small, the cost is
prohibitive, the Feds have to really, really want to nail
you....
The only 100% secure way to "erase" your data is to remove the
hard disk, open the sealed case, pull the platters out and smash
them into tiny shards. That's final. It's also pretty obvious
you were hiding something, lol.

We should have gone after the Saudis if we're going to pick a
country to attack. That's where the hijackers and their funding
came from. The women there might actually greet us as
liberators.

...Or they might just find a way to resent us just like
Kuwait... ::)
BTW Why not just wipe Mexico off the map so we never have
another Kate Stienle? ??? Same principle! Furthermore not all of
the Hijackers were Saudis.

Until they found classified information, I didn't see a problem
with her using her server for correspondence. But the minute
there's classified info, it's a problem.

How about this reason, SHE WASN'T SUPPOSED TOO!

You'd have to ask Bush. Preemptive death and destruction was his
bag, not mine.

He is.
Pushing for war against a people who have done nothing to you
(Iraq) you is criminal. Particularly when corporations you have
personal ties to profit from it.
We should have gone after the Saudis if we're going to pick a
country to attack. That's where the hijackers and their funding
came from. The women there might actually greet us as
liberators.
Bush and Ashcroft are criminals with their constitutional
violations, as is Obama.
Pushing for war is not a war crime any more than speaking out
against your government is a crime. Nice try but you're out.
This isn't some middle eastern country or Russia where you get
thrown into jail for speaking your mind.

You're right, speech isn't the issue.
How about actually waging war against a country that's done
nothing to you?
