So I am now curious. Would you be comfortable if non union
employees were getting paid more than union employees?

Basic American Foods.... 5 plants in the US one of which was in
Plover Wisconsin. 4 plants were union while Plover remained non
union. Better benefits, better wages, better product and
employees able to create committees to bring changes in Plover.
Please never assume that it could never happen Linda. ;)

It happens everyday Linda. CNA's in Wausau were getting better
wages and benefits in facilities in nonunion workplaces than
they were getting in union workplaces. Because of that the
union was eliminated. All the unions were doing were
negotiating contracts to keep up with those facilities around
them, and charging union dues to boot. Since the demise of the
unions my wife has received comparable if not higher raises each
year without paying the dues.

in more then 40yrs of union dealings on both sides of the table,
the only thing that have ever seen protected by the union is the
status quo ---but that is only one mans experience in a couple
different(local) industries

I have to say that is the best post I've seen about the unions
since the RTW debate began.

I don't have much use for unions, but that doesn't mean I should
take that option away from those who do. I've never had a
problem finding non-union work...and better pay.
I don't like hot dogs either, I think they're bad for you. You
can eat 'em if you like, that isn't my business. Freedom of
choice is for everyone, not just those with my point of view.
You get the idea.

With that being said...if the employer wants to reward non union
members with higher wages and/or better benefits because they
feel those employees earned it....then the unions better not
raise a stink and demand equal pay and benefits for the union
members just because they pay dues.

That's a perfect free-market answer, Conservatives should push
for exactly that.
If employers want to pay non-union employees more, that's their
choice. If unions offer the better deal, that is also their
choice. The government does not need to interfere on either
party's behalf.
