That would be a great incentive to bust the union as well. Pay
those not in the union a little higher pay. But I think the
union people would be crying foul over that as well.

Nobody forces someone to join a union shop. If you don't want to
join a union, work elsewhere. It's that simple.

Nobody forces someone to work in a RTW state. If you want to
join a union, move. It's that simple. Right now you have 25 to
       choose from.

No...I'm not saying they "should" pay those not in a union a
higher wage just because they aren't in a union....but if they
(employers) think certain employees are better workers then of
course they should be rewarded with higher pay and better
benefits than those who are less productive. You shouldn't get a
higher wage just because the union says so....earn that
privilege by working for it. Everyone should get a cost of
living increase now and then but the employees who work the
hardest should be rewarded with more pay if the employer wants
them to stay on and give other workers incentive. Unions
stiffel the incentive to bust your butt to work your way up the
ladder. It reminds me of giving all kids a trophy just for
       showing up.

I agree with you Jeepers. My thought is though, everyone
pushing pro unions are complaining that unions have to negotiate
for nonunion employees. I just thought of how the union backers
would be squealing if they were getting less pay than the
nonunion. OTOH, there wouldn't be any problem if they were
       getting more.
I do agree with you 100% about the work based pay. This is what
we do where I work. If you put out, if you show up for work
everyday and do a good job you get a raise based on your
performance. This is what happens where I work. I firmly do
not agree with across the board raises. There is no incentive
       to do your best.

Yes...you are right....the unions would be squealing if *gasp* a
non union member would get a better wage for being more
productive than one of his union co-workers.

It's always difficult to pay more than what is in the labor
contract but with imagination there is always a workaround.
Our workaround with our members servicing 250ish locations in
groups of 4 is the company always includes in the customer
contract the ability to lower the customer charge with the
customer funneling that savings into a monthly appreciation gift
to the union member. I believe the highest gift so far has
equaled $15 thousand a year for those working that customer
contract. I have no idea how something like that could work in
       a manufacturing union.

And you should not get any protection from the union if you
       don't pay the dues. Period.
As far as I'm concerned, any company that currently operates
with a union contract should be grandfathered out of RTW.
Trolly, your comment about moving if you don't like RTW is
bull$hit. the unions were here long before Scott Walker and his
       minions.

I agree. Unions should not be required to represent non union
       members.
This law does not end any union contracts. It only gives people
the right to choose if they want to belong to a union or not.
You can not grandfather anyone from having their rights.
And it doesn't matter how long anything has been in existence.
If it did there would still be slavery.
And don't even try to compare that to guns ownership rights.
People have the right to choose to own or not own firearms.

I never said a word about guns.
The fact is, if people don't join the union they shouldn't get
       protection from the union.
