Ah, yes, the "elected representatives". Speaking of them....
is anyone else irritated with congress for not approving an
authorization of war against ISIL?
You know, the ones who call Obama the "imperial president",
then when asked to do their jobs- they stand back, do nothing
and criticize him for not doing enough on his own?
Both Dems and R's are standing around their their thumbs up
their bums hoping Obama has to own the entire situation.
Elections coming up you know.

Obama does have to own the entire situation. The problem being
he has the power to do something about it and hasn't, (except
for this waste of time summit he just held). Congress as usual
will do nothing. Dem's want him to do less, (if that's
possible) Repubs more. I was amused to hear that the Iraqi army
is going to attack Mosul at the end of next month, you know, the
same army that dropped their weapons and ran earlier. So much
for the element of surprise

Right. Now he's wrong for NOT taking executive action, lol.

He doesn't have to take executive action. He's the commander in
chief. He just has to take action. That's all most are asking
for. Having a so called summit that accomplishes nothing isn't
the type of action anyone is looking for. There is even a lot
of grumbling coming from his side of the aisle now.

Then he was doomed right from the beginning. ;) This was the
basis of his first term.

Right and wrong have nothing to with this, at least not in the
way you define such concepts. It is all about the 2016 election.
POTUS isn't the game in town. Obama is a Democrat and if he is
successful against iISIS every Democrat will try to ride high on
the OBAMA WAS A SUCCESS AND TO CONTINUE HIS GOOD WORKS IS TO
ELECT US! However there is the very real chance that this could
back fire things go wrong and every Democrat could have egg on
faces unless they can spin this as DON'T BLAME US, WE DID NOT
WANT TO DO THIS IT WAS THE REPUBLICANS THAT FORCED HIM INTO THIS
BLAME THEM.
While this my not be the best military strategy is a "good"
political strategy, in a Machiavellian sort of way. Victory
-credit Obama/ Defeat - blame Republicans. Tell me Rapids, can
you promise that you and like minded people aren't already
thinking in these terms?

I suspect they will get around to it in the next month or so,
don't think they are in session then they have to think on it
and do rewrites. The President will get something close to what
he wants, far as I remember the last time a President was
stopped from killing people and breaking things was when the
legislature stopped Clinton from getting involved in that
Hutu-Tutsi thing in Rwanda. That idea failed so bad I don't
think he even made a formal request.

Who are my "like minded people"?
My idea is to leave the area and let them kill each other. Just
like they've done for 2,000 years.
If they attack France, France can deal with it unless they
specifically request our help. Unless they attack the US, we've
got better things to do.
I will judge (any) president on whether he keeps our country
safe. That's his job. Being world policeman is not.
You know a surefire way to win a gunfight? Don't be there. A
Christian V. Muslim war, which is exactly what ISIS wants, will
drag on for eternity. The Muslim extremists need to be crushed
by other Muslims. We can only win by not being sucked in.
There are those who want Obama to do "more". More than send
advisors, more than targeted bombing runs, make sure the world
knows it's MUSLIMS MUSLIMS MUSLIMS that we are fighting. (as
though they don't know already) If that goes south, it's
exactly the fault of those who wanted it.

The idea that they are blaming Obama for not taking action while
they are vacationing on the golf course doesn't make it any
better. :D
If it's that big a deal, cut the recess short and get to work.
If it isn't that big a deal, stop complaining.

What is Obama's excuse for doing next to noting for the past six
months prior to going to Congress? It seems he has had no
problem going around Congress for everything else. Why is this
any different? I think WMD answered this question in a previous
post. Politics. Why would Obama telegraph an attack, when it's
going to happen, who is going to do it, how many are going to do
it and where it's going to happen? Politics. That type of
recklessness borders on treason.
