       Subject: SGA Budget Update
       Fellow Pointers!
       Last Tuesday, February 3rd, the Governor of Wisconsin spoke to
       and released his State Budget Proposal. Members of University
       Administration, the Student Government Association, Faculty and
       Staff have intensely reviewed the Governor’s Proposal and here
       is what we know, now.
       1. Based on traditional funding levels from the state, the
       Legislative Audit Bureau projects a reduction of state funding
       to UW – Stevens Point totaling $6,260,900 million, if the $300
       million reduction in funding to the UW system were to be
       approved.
       Sub-Total: 6,260,900 Million Dollars
       1. The following programs are losing funding in the proposed
       budget and affect specifically the College of Natural Resources
       and the College of Letters and Science.
       College of Letters and Science
       * Aquaculture (fund 156), scheduled for FY17 - $417,500, four
       FTE
       Sub-Total: 417,500.00 Million Dollars
       College of Natural Resources
       * Environmental Education (fund 160), scheduled for FY16 -
       $130,000
       * Environmental Education (fund 164), scheduled for FY17 -
       $200,000
       * WI Bioenergy Initiative-WIST (fund 167), scheduled for FY16 -
       $440,000, four FTE
       * Extension Recycling (fund 168), scheduled for FY16 - $99,473,
       one FTE
       * Grants-Forestry (fund 169), scheduled for FY17 - $83,300, one
       FTE
       * Environmental Program Grants (fund 170), scheduled for FY17 -
       $100,000, one FTE
       * Solid Waste Research (fund 190), scheduled for FY16 -grants
       received periodically
       * Outdoor Skills Training-BOW (fund 157), scheduled for FY17 -
       $53,700, one FTE
       Sub-Total: 1,106,473 Million Dollars
       Assuming the defunding of the above programs and the proposed
       $300 million reduction of the UW – System, the total estimated
       reduction in funding to UW – Stevens Point
       Total Proposed Reduction is Funding: 7,784,873Million dollars
       What can students do to get involved?
       1. Email your thoughts and opinions to

       3. Walk into the Student Government Office and ask questions.

       4. Go to the Open Forums
       * February 11th 6 pm in DUC Laird Room – Hosted by SGA
       * February 16th 4pm in the DUC Laird Room –Hosted by SGA
       * February 23rd 6 pm in DUC Theater – Hosted by SGA
       5. Write letters to your Legislator, about what UW – Stevens
       Point means to you.
       6. Attend the SGA senate meeting and provide your senators with
       your opinion during the public forum portion. SGA’s senate
       meeting is every Thursday @ 6:15 in the legacy room, located on
       the 3rd floor of the DUC.
       7. Share and discuss this information with your friends and
       fellow students!
       One question you might have is: What is your Student Government
       doing?
       1. SGA is currently meeting with legislators in Madison to
       discuss the budget proposal, lobby for the UW System and find
       out more information.
       2. Contacting Residence Halls to set up educational programs
       across campus
       3. DUC Tabling, SGA will ensure easy student access to relevant
       information
       4. Planning Trips to Join Finance Committee meetings
