       Yeah, true.
IMHO, I think 50 years is enough time to realize our tactics
weren't working. Tough to make an argument against awful
Commie countries when our largest trading partner and banker is
       one.

I think it should have waited until the Castro brothers were
dead. Now they claiming they beat the US and this is just more
fuel for their propaganda. A new power broker that will come
after they are gone might have used it to win favor with the
people by bring some changes about. But now that won't happen.
Because the next leaders won't have anything to gain. The magic
       is spent.

Well, that's a good point. I have no argument with it.
Will we be able to purchase good Cigars now? Because some
things are more important than worrying over an oppressed
       people. :D :)

All the good cigar producers have moved to Central America ;)
Actually a well aged Cuban cigar is darn tasty---enjoyed 3 of
them this summer, right down to the powerful heady finish!!

That man in the pretty head dress managed to do something that
Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush1,
Clinton, or Bush2 could not do in almost 55 years. Thats seems
like a lot of clout if you ask me.

Could not? Or would not. There is a difference.

I would say a lil of both. Interesting that the pope was able to
get the two to the table. If you ask me its about time.

Nobody CARED about restoring relations with Cuba. I'm sure a
President with the desire to do so could have done so long ago.

I take it you are not too well versed in the relations between
Cuba and the US. Have you ever heard of the Bay of Pigs
Invasion? How did that work out?
In 2011 Obama had former president Jimmy Carter attempt to
broker a deal similar to the one the Pope successfully arranged.
       Carter failed.
At least two presidents were actively trying to kill Castro
(think exploding cigars and poisin wetsuits) They failed. Carter
tried to appease Castro and we got the Mariel boat lift, That
worked well for Castro as he emptied his prisons and mental
hospitals, It wasnt so good for the Ole US of A. Reagan tried
and failed to broker any sort of normalizing of relations. So
you can make the statements you did but they are not neccesarily
true. Or would you care to elaborate?

As long as the voting US public had animosity towards Cuba, no
US leader really tried that hard to restore relations. There's
       nothing in it for us.

More on that thought, when you think about makes the
Cuban-American population different than just about every other
immigrant group is that for the most part these people would
like to be able to go back to Cuba someday.
