Just finished "California" by Eden Lepucki. Yet another post
apocolyptic novel. For some reason I read a lot of these. I
found this book ultimately unsatisfying. It began well and has
certain interesting plot lines the ending is way too quick and
leaves too much open for me. I thought some of her descriptions
were quite insiteful. I thought her use of the brother was quite
unexplained in what his motivation for his choices well I just
didnt get it. I did enjoy the Frida character and thought she
was a strong character and well developed. Too bad the rest of
the book wasnt

I'll tell you what I'm NOT reading. The 50 Shades of Grey books.
I got the 3 book pack as a gift and I really did try to read the
first one. Yikes....it wasn't the sex that was disgusting to
me....it was the horrible amatuer writing style of this so
called author. The people who rave about these books must never
have read a decently written book.

settled/traveled

2 sounds interesting. I have read several books of food history
the most recent was a history of the world in 6 glasses. I do
enjoy that twist on history.

Some of his shows are pretty interesting but don't make an
effort to see the shows--good friends had lunch with him(for a
show) in Chicago a couple years ago but I didn't(or couldn't) go
down for meal---watch very little foodtv as interested as I am
in cooking/baking--all the shows seem to be much oriented
towards eating rather then cooking

May I make a suggestion for you then? Check out "Chopped" A
show that's a competition strictly about cooking and one I think
you would thoroughly enjoy. Chefs get a basket of unusual
ingredients and must make an a dish out of it. Sometimes the
things these baskets contain are very interesting and sometimes
repulsive as well.

I have a tendency to read about 4 novels at one time.
I've just started "Revival" by Stephen King.
The one story that really stuck with me in the last
year..."Unbroken." Read the book before you see the movie.
Heart-wrenching.
