       Rumor has it...

A Senate Intelligence committee report states that "enhanced
interrogation" didn't work. This despite many in the intel
community stating it did. It's not too difficult to figure out
who I'd listen to on this topic. A bunch of spiteful Senators
who spent $40 million on this or the people who actually work in
the intel community. Lest we forget, those Senators who
complain loudly about this today were sitting in on numerous
meetings and were briefed on the procedures as they occurred and
the intelligence that was obtained using these measures. Did
they all of a sudden find their conscious a dozen or so years
       later?
There doesn't seem to be any mistaking that this report will
cause a backlash across the middle east. Our Embassies and
service personnel have been place on high alert. I find myself
asking the question, why do it and why now? Why intentionally
place our people in harms way?

I'm not sure I'd trust those trying to justify their own
questionable behavior either. Particularly when public
sentiment is not in their favor
We historically understood that torture was counterproductive.
We didn't torture the Japanese. Or the Nazis. Or the
Vietnamese. Did human nature suddenly change? Or did we make a
mistake in a moment of weakness? (and weakness is exactly what
       this nonsense demonstrates).
Even if it were moderately productive, a small amount of data
is not worth wholesale destruction of our values and moral
authority worldwide. We're supposed to lecture other countries
on human rights now, are we? Sure, right after that forced
       rectal feeding.
What would our response be if our enemies did this to US troops?

Because the only way to repair our national conscience is to
admit things we've done wrong and punish those responsible.
Once the republicans take over the report would never see the
       light of day.
Slavery was wrong, we eventually admitted it. Our treatment of
the Tuskegee airmen was wrong and we eventually admitted it.
Japanese internment was wrong, we eventually admitted it.
Torture was wrong. By our own standards it was wrong. We need
       to admit it.
Harms way? Dropping bombs on their homeland doesn't galvanize
       the terrorists?
Gee, and ISIL was just starting to like us.

Oh Rapids, you leave me no choice but to reveal this story CBS
NEWS ran about 15 years ago about what disqualify a person from
being hired as police officer. Somewhere in Massachusetts a man
who had recently graduated from a police academy was told by a
small city that he was not eligible to become a cop because of
the results a hiring intelligence test. The result? He was TOO
SMART for the duties of police work. This lead to a law suit
that ended up the courts ruling in favor of the city, being too
smart is a good reason not to hire someone for police work.
Poor Rapids 60. You had lifetime guaranteed employment, based on
your previous post. I guess the 600,000 deaths of the Civil War
had nothing to do with ending slavery. BTW, it has been
estimated that there are as many people living in slavery today
as in 1861, in a separate that means anything to you.

With all due respect, and that amount is questionable since
you've decided personal attacks are appropriate...what on earth
       are you talking about?
This isn't that difficult. If the USA is to stand as a beacon
of fairness, integrity and opportunity to the rest of the world,
we need to follow the same rules we ask others to follow. We
executed Japanese for waterboarding. We consider torture a war
       crime.
We've done both and by our own standards it was the wrong thing
to do. We can make excuses, or we can man up and make it right.
Not liking hypocrisy committed in my name, I prefer the
       latter.

Yup, I'd take the word of a politician every time! I'm not sure
how you create and "unbiased" report without talking to those
who were directly involved. But as the Benghazi ARB report
shows, this is SOP for them.

Didn't we admit this already? Like five or six years ago? Who
exactly is going to be punished do you assume? This report has
been out for years. Why now?
How many times do we have to admit slavery was wrong? Japanese
internment was wrong and on and on and on. Those who continue
to dwell in the past will never move into the future. There was
no good reason to release this report at this time. None.
It's kinda hard to take Obama seriously when he says we've
violated American values, then turns around and orders drone
strikes that kills how many innocents? Oh...yeah, there only
innocent if they aren't a certain age, or race, or sex. Just
being there makes them guilty. A great argument for American
       values.

Well, that's basically the problem. If we don't punish these
people there is nothing to prevent the next president (or
whoever) from doing the same or worse. They say one thing
       then brazenly do another.
If they knew federal prison were a real possibility their
       behavior would be much better.
If those responsible had sat in prison for foreign rendition,
Obama wouldn't be launching drone attacks with such disregard.
If Obama sits in prison for his misdeeds, the next president
will govern his actions accordingly. They need to be
       accountable for their actions.
And I'm entirely in favor of rounding all the perps up and
letting them sit, don't care who they are or what their excuse
is. This isn't a banana republic, nobody is above the law.

Making Obama sit would make us a bunch of racists. Dammed if
       you do.....
In an even more outrageous note. Democrats are now calling for
the CIA to apologize to the terrorists. Then you wonder why
they aren't in power any more?

Ah. Good point. Maybe his next job will be selling "loosies".
We know how that ends for black men.

Not "Democrats". One nutcase Democrat. Does Grothmann
represent the entire Republican party? :D
