Hagel is out
By: trollslayer Date: November 24, 2014, 8:40 am
---------------------------------------------------------
In a confirmation of the failing foreign policy of the Obama
administration, after one brief year, Hagel is out as Defense
Secretary.
NYT: HAGEL RESIGNING UNDER PRESSURE – The Times’s Helene
Cooper: “Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is stepping down under
pressure, the first cabinet-level casualty of the collapse of
President Obama’s Democratic majority in the Senate and a
beleaguered national security team that has struggled to stay
ahead of an onslaught of global crises. The president, who is
expected to announce Mr. Hagel’s resignation in a Rose Garden
appearance on Monday, made the decision to ask his defense
secretary — the sole Republican on his national security team —
to step down last Friday after a series of meetings over the
past two weeks, senior administration officials said.”
--“The officials described Mr. Obama’s decision to remove Mr.
Hagel, 68, as a recognition that the threat from the Islamic
State would require a different kind of skills than those that
Mr. Hagel was brought on to employ. A Republican with military
experience who was skeptical about the Iraq war, Mr. Hagel came
in to manage the Afghanistan combat withdrawal and the shrinking
Pentagon budget in the era of budget sequestration. … Even
before the announcement of Mr. Hagel’s removal, Obama officials
were speculating on his possible replacement. At the top of the
list are Michele Flournoy, the former under secretary of
defense; Senator Jack Reed, Democrat of Rhode Island and a
former officer with the Army’s 82nd Airborne; and Ashton Carter,
a former deputy secretary of defense.”
Hagel was in way over his head.
Now Obama wants to appoint a liberal ideologist to that
position that has absolutely no military experience to replace
him.

Kinda funny, one week people are talking about the divisions
within the Republican party, the next they're puppets. A real
puppet follows the leader, votes for a bill that a majority of
Americans don't want but votes for it anyway because the
American people are too stupid to know the difference.

The puppets are finding that the American people aren't that
stupid. Nearly half of those who voted for the ACA in the
Senate are gone

I think it's good he is gone, he was hired to complete the
possible 20%ish draw down from 540 to 420 thou in a peacetime
military with the 1500 or so guys called "special operators"
handling any flare ups and saving the world every time just like
in the movies.
Things have changed. They are continuing the draw down,
reducing benefits while tasking the military more and more on a
weekly basis.
When things change this much in just two years, even if Hagel
the Republican is a good guy, new blood is needed at the top to
face the new demands.

Interesting. Can you find a poll that says the American people
did not want the ACA before the ACA vote was held? IIRC public
support for healthcare reform at the time was fairly
overwhelming. It's one of the things that swept Dem majorities
into office.
You may be correct that the majority does not want the bill in
it's current form, but that is a different argument.
