Nothing in the local news about the dog being shot in Grand
Rapids. Not doubting it happened, but looking for more details.
Did I miss it somewhere?

Yeah, I haven't seen anything in the news about this. Of course,
I'm sure it's a MAJOR COVERUP SCANDAL!

I have a dog. Cooper is a 12-year-old yellow lab. He's well
behaved. He is NEVER allowed outside unattended. He's been a
wonderful family member. He's lying next to me as I write this.
But he is an animal. Although he's never EVER been aggressive
towards a person, I'd never let him outside with a stranger
approaching the house. Nor would I send someone into my house
without me if Cooper didn't know him.
All domestic pets have wild ancestors. Which means there isn't a
pet alive that is guaranteed never to bite. Add aggressive breed
characteristics, inbreeding, and bad training, and the chance of
an unexpected attack increase.
So, and it's OUR responsibility to keep our animals and the
people who come in contact with them safe. Keeping them in a
secured house or pen is for their safety as well as our's. And
we fail THEM if we allow them to get loose.

BULL.
Three witnesses signed statements collaborating what the officer
said.
And nobody should be expected to defend themselves only after
they are bitten.
But because this woman SAYS her Miley wouldn't attack, well,
then the cops and other witnesses MUST be lying.
I saw where this dog lived on TV. It lived on a chain attached
to a shoddy house that has light showing through the sides,
which means it provided no warmth and comfort. But NOW she
professes to care about the animal. It was probably trying to
escape to find a better place to live, with a less negligent
owner.

Meh. That isn't a quality life for a dog. Maybe it was suicide
by cop?

If it is true that the dog lived in a run down uninsulated dog
house and was chained outside. And that the dog was running
lose. Well then it would appear that the dog was perhaps a
victim of a person who may be unfit to own a dog.
But again I don't know any of the facts first hand. I haven't
seen the dog house or seen the dog chained outside.

They showed a picture of it on Channel 9. It looked sad.
I feel bad for anyone who loses a beloved pet. But nobody should
be expected to let a dog bite them in order to prove that the
dog was indeed going to bite.
If, as witnesses have stated, the dog was baring it's teeth and
charging the officer, he did the only thing he could do, outside
of letting it bite him.

Boy, read the comments on the Tribune site. (I admit...I'm in on
it.) These people are NUTS.
And this poor, sad dog owner pretty much negated any sympathy
she might get when she started asking for $$$. Sickening.
