Oh please Linda. That pitbull had the perfect opportunity to rip
your sister and her dog to shreds and didn't do anything to
either one of them. With that being said....dogs should not be
allowed to run loose so the owners should be fined for having a
loose dog.

What type of dog is this? What would you do if it came "
charging" at you? Do YOU feel intimidated by this dog? This is a
white Boxer. Many people were afraid of him and wrongly accused
him of being a pitbull. In his 12 years of life, his most
serious crime was hurting a teenager with a HUG!
Here is my point, there are probably more injuries that occur
from over re-action from the sight of a strange dog than actual
attacks as evidenced by another posters story.If you don't know
the dog, use common sense when approaching it. If you encounter
a strange dog, move slowly and avoid any quick movements. Learn
to identify the dogs breed. There are certain breeds that tend
to be more aggressive than others but that does not mean ALL
dogs of that breed are aggressive.
This latest shooting is a sad showing of things to come. The
dog was purposely let out and another dog at the residence
stayed in the kennel COWERING when the owners returned home.
They did the right thing by notifying the police to see if
anyone had reported a stray dog only to be told the cops shot
and killed the dog. What will be interesting to see where the
killing shot hit the poor dog. If the entry wound was broad side
or rear to front, that will show that the cop lied and purposely
killed it just because.

This dog is indeed a pit bull. And it has shown aggressiveness
towards people and other dogs before. It cannot be trusted off
its leash. If I'm being charged by a known aggressive dog I'm
going to do what I can to GET THE HE!! away from the thing.
I hope when this thing finally does get ahold of someone it's
one of their own family members...not mine. Then we can hear the
same old sob story about how "she was a sweet dog...loved
everybody. We don't know what happened. Boo hoo. "

there have been 34 killings by pit bulls(and mixes) this
year--as of Sept---have been around lots of great(at the moment)
pit bulls but wouldn't trust one!! And an owner that is out
with their dog without a break stick is irresponsible--

They get a bad rap because those are the dogs the bad people in
our society are training to be aggressive these days. Drug
dealers and gangbanger's dog of choice.
Prior to Pitts it was Rotts, Dobermans, Shepherds....
I'd be curious who the owners in Linda's case are. I bet not
society's finest.

They are actually decent people.
With a bad breed of dog.
Btw, my sister did call the police, after she got reports from
neighbors that this mutt has run loose before.

I don't think pits are a bad breed although I understand why
some might. They are capable of doing substantial damage if they
aren't in good hands. They aren't a good breed for everyone.
We fostered a pit when the boys were young, he was shot in the
head just for being a pit and survived. Gentle, quiet dog. I'd
have no qualms about getting another.

Linda seriously? Before you were saying the dog was a pit
bull...now you are saying its a mutt. You have your mind made up
that all pit bulls are vicious. They are not. That dog never
touched your sister even when she was helplessly laying on the
ground screaming her head off. I have my doubts that it even
charged at her as claimed. I think her fear of pit bulls might
have sent her imagination running wild. A vicious dog would have
attacked...especially when she fell and showed her fear by
screaming...yet you think the dog should be shot???
I just had to have my companion and best friend put to sleep
Friday. A German Shepherd who would have given her life to
protect me if need be but who was gentle to the point of letting
kittens sleep with her and eat out of her food dish. Like Rapids
mentioned....German Shepherds used to be the most hated and
feared breed. Now its the pit bulls getting the bad rap thanks
to the media sensationalizing each pit bull story like they used
to do with Shepherds, Dobermans and Rotts.

Jeepers. You weren't there. My sister was.
And when I use the word "mutt" I mean "worthless, vicious piece
of $hit dog."
This dog isn't one of those bull$hit stories about a Pitt that
cuddles with babies. It lives on a chain in the backyard and
snarls at anyone in sight.
Oh, and by the way? Turns out this MUTT was reported for being
off its leash and showing aggression before. So please remember
that before you call me a liar.

This is a post from the dogs owner. Linda, think if it was your
kitties that were shot and bagged in a "garbage" bag!
"Monday while on my way there I prayed to God to give me the
strength to get through all of this. I was so worried. I didn't
know how I would be able to make it through this day. I couldn't
just leave her there. I couldn't abandon my pretty girl. I love
her and I wanted her home. It had to be me to go get her but how
could I? I know she had been murdered. My heart was pounding
with grief and fear, They wanted me to identify her body. I
couldn't. I just couldn't look at her all shot up with bullet
holes. Part of me was dying inside. My mouth went dry and hands
shook. I begged them to look her picture and to not make me have
to look. I can't open my eyes to see what they had done to my
girl. My sweet friendly outgoing girl has been shot and killed
by the very people we put the most trust in. The one stranger
who should be there for us when we need someone most. Our most
trusted had betrayed me in the worst way. They had murdered my
furkid. As I stood there waiting for them to have a chat in the
back room about the identity thing. My hands shaking and not
able to swallow, short of breath, even though I had not done
anything to cause this other then stand her and wait. It was the
waiting and not knowing if I would be forced to see my baby
riddled with bullet holes. While I was waiting for them to bring
her out, I asked the lady at the desk if they were called to
help catch Miley she told me they were not called until it was
all over and Miley was dead. My heart just sank. Why didn't that
officer call for them to come catch her? Why did he kill first?
Finally they came out. Finally the tiny bit of relief they said
they could tell it was my dog that had. The bitter sweet of
that. I would get my girl back home with me but in such a way I
could never hold her again. I held back my tears, fighting, not
wanting to let others see my pain. Finally they brought out my
girl. The shock of seeing my sweet girl wrapped on a garbage bag
tied off at the end. A garbage bag? Is this what the fate of my
girl had become? garbage? I handed them the blanket I had
brought with me. At least she could look like she was wrapped in
the warmth from home. At least she would not look like the
garbage that man had treated her like when he shot her dead.
They wrapped her in that warm blanket from home and they placed
her gently in the back seat of my car. This is our final ride
home in the car. She loved her car rides. I got in the car after
they had walked away. I was just broken. I broke down and cried
like I had never before. No one should feel this betrayal of
trust. No one should have to ride home with the dead bullet
ridden body of a loved family member stuffed in a garbage bag
and wrapped in a blanket in the back seat of a car. Trying to
wipe the shocking sight of her in that garbage bag from my mind
hurt so bad. trying to picture her happy and bouncing to play.
Loving everyone she met along the way in her life. There were no
strangers to Miley. After some time just letting tears carry
shock and pain away from me I was able to drive home. Just
trying to remember to breath helped to hold off tears as I drove
the road to home. I don't know how I made it home. It was the
longest drive I think I had ever been on. I sat in the car in
the driveway and was broken once more. I got out of the car and
left part of me still sitting in that drivers seat. I walked
inside the house feeling as empty as I ever have.
When my son Elijah was home he came with me to take Miley to
someones home with a full size freezer. As Elijah picked her up
a friend tried to help him but he looked hard at them shrugging
the offer. He would carry her. He alone would do this last thing
for his jogging partner, his play mate, his friend and sister.
Now Miley is in a safe private place. We are not sure just yet
what we will do next but we know she is home and safe.
Never again would we play our favorite game of hide and seek.
Miley standing by me as my daughter ran out of sight and I would
send her to "find Phaedra Miley! Go find Phaedra!" No more games
of tug o war with her grumbles of fun and joy at the game.
Grandpa was the best with tug. No more walks next to grandpa as
he mows the lawn. Miley's out on her every other day jog of 3 to
6 miles with Elijah her brother and my son. Oh how they went
running together as team. I will miss my evening cuddle time
with her every evenings. Now Phaedra sleeps alone as well. My
PTSD will no longer have the warning from Miley as I have had.
She was my warning that the symptoms were coming on. She was my
strength to get me through those moments when I could not stand
alone. Now I hold an empty leash with nothing on the end of it.
I stand alone. No other dog can take her place. No other dog can
hold the other end of this leash. No other."
