Dog hunting..... should it be legal?

It has happened again in Grand Rapids. A cop assassinated a
family member of a local family. Why is it that it is only the
big breeds of dogs being targeted when the biggest threats come
from the little ankle biters? I would suggest that a requirement
to being a cop would be extensive animal behavior training.
Enough is enough of killing the family pets.

Oh Steve, all they have to do is say those magic words "I Felt
Threatened" and nobody questions it.
How have Mail Carriers dealt with dogs for 200 years without
firearms?

I don't know the particulars of this story but I do have to
throw out this simple equation.
I get bit + I have gun = dead dog

I agree, Trolly.
I was a postal worker for a number of years. And I tell ya
this...there were times I WISHED I had a gun. 5600 postal
workers were bitten on the job last year alone.
HTML http://www.robinkbennett.com/2014/05/19/why-do-so-many-postal-workers-get-bitten-by-dogs/
Postal workers are ENCOURAGED to file suit of they are bitten by
a dog on the job. And if a dog threatens a postal worker,
there's a good chance the owner will get a notice that NOBODY ON
THE BLOCK will get their mail until the dog is no longer in a
position to threaten the carrier.
And I have to ask...why is it okay for a person to shoot another
PERSON because they feel threatened, but a police officer is not
allowed to shoot a DOG if they feel threatened?

You can't shoot a person if you feel threatened (at least not in
WI). You have to fear your life is in danger and have no lesser
alternative.
Someone kicking your ass isn't enough. Broken bones and
missing teeth are not "fearing for your life". The sole
exception with a lower standard is an intruder who enters your
home.
I'm not saying PO's are always wrong to shoot dogs. It sure
seems to happen a lot though, and in some cases there is
evidence the dog was not only not threatening the officer...but
completely ignoring him. It's an intimidation tactic. Yet it's
never found to be excessive. I don't like two sets of rules.

Okay, consider this story.
Tonight at 5pm my sister put her toy poodle out on his leash to
pee. The dog started to bark...his alarm bark, so my sister
started walking out to him.
What my sister couldn't see until she walked past her car was
the neighbors PIT BULL standing on the street. As soon as Lisa
grabbed her dog, the pit bull charged her. She turned to run,
took two steps, and fell when her hamstring tore. She layer
there, unable to move, clutching her poodle, waiting for that
f--kin MONSTER to tear into her. She screamed, and pulled
herself on her stomach into her house. She didn't know where the
pit bull went, but none of the 20 people who live in that house
came out to see where their dog was, or why she was screaming.
My sister won't call the police. Because the dog didn't bite
her. But NEXT TIME it might be a little KID who gets mauled.
I'm using all my self control not to take the 10-gauge over
there and blow that thing apart. I will APPLAUD any cop who
shoots one of those monsters.

Think your sister should report the incident! May help her(or
someone else) in the future.
You got a ten gauge??? Got rid of mine when I stopped
crane&goose hunting--monster shot gun for sure!

I know, TF, but she won't listen!

Sounds like the pit bull (and possibly it's owners) have it
coming. :)
Seriously, sometimes it's warranted. Other times it isn't.
Discretion please? Is that asking a lot?
Our neighbors killed our 2 German shepherds when I was young.
Absolutely harmless dogs, very gentle. The neighbor came into
OUR yard and fed them hamburger with broken glass mixed in.
They died a horrible death because he was afraid.
If the dog isn't threatening.....leave it alone.
I hope your sister is OK!

I mean, she's going to miss a week of work now...maybe more,
depending on what the MRI shows.
