       This story deserves more coverage than it is getting. There was
       a professor at Northwestern Univ who made a name for himself
       getting innocent people out of jail. One of his major
       accomplishments was the freeing of Anthony Porter from
       Illinois's death row hours before he was to be executed. This
       case so moved the then governor ( who has since been recently
       released from jail) to abolish the death penalty in Illinois. He
       and his students claimed to find the real killer, a man Alstory
       Simon. The tactics they used to get this man to confess, well if
       a cop did it he would be in prison. Well after spending 15 years
       in jail the now Cook County States Attorney Anita Alvarez
       released him and pretty much admitted the overwhelming evidence
       (including NUMEROUS eyewitnesses) points back to Anthony Porter,
       who can not be retried for the case.

       Excellent article, one I would have missed had you not posted
       it.
       Seems a good argument against the death penalty among other
       things, given the courts occasionally condemn an innocent
       man....and now the innocence project frees the guilty and
       condemns the innocent.
