       RIP Nathan Cirillo
       By: wmd102 Date: October 22, 2014, 6:01 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
A couple of years ago my father went on the NEVER FORGOTTEN
HONOR FLIGHT and was quite impressed with just about everything
on that tour. The one that stood out the most THE TOMB OF THE
UNKNOWN, not the memorial itself, though it certainly is, he was
impressed by the guards. The requirements to even be considered
for this duty are almost impossible describe here so to keep
things pity, the military really takes this duty pretty serious.
After what happened at Canada's WAR MEMORIAL today you ought to
understand to importance of such a guard duty, especially with
sick people in world who seem drawn to such places, not only to
kill people but to tug on the emotions of an entire nation. >:(
       :'(
Rest in Peace Nathan Cirillo. You gave your life that others
       would keep theirs.

Thanks for that story Wmd. It should be noted, that this man
eagerly volunteered to stand guard today for no pay. He did it
       for his fallen comrades.
As is always the case with days like today the heros can be
many. Some known, some unknown. After this terrorists shot
this soldier at point blank range he headed for the Parliament.
The Sergeant at Arms for the Parliament, a largely ceremonial
position, was in his office when he heard shots fired. He
grabbed his sidearm and took the terrorists (or workplace
shooter whatever you want to call him) out. He undoubtedly
saved some lives. Fortunately not a gun free zone.

Political purposes? It's not our politics to exploit. I'm
thankful somebody besides the shooter had a gun. There is no
telling how many lives this guy saved. Politics has nothing to
do with it! One brave, armed man saved countless lives.

Work place violence? Is that not also exploiting this
       "tragedy"?

Well..you know these guys were at work, and um..... they were on
the clock and um....... it was violent...so....
       Wouldn't that be the argument?

10 years ago I went to Arlington and saw the Changing of the
Guard Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown.
One of the most moving experiences of my life.

Absolutely. I'd like to go back one day, I understand a lot has
changed (for the better) since I was there in the mid 70's.

I plan on making a return trip in a few more years.
That ceremony was incredible. The precision of the moves was
       mind boggling.
