Meet Officer Dan Page. Racist, Don Lemon- shover and
proponent of domestic abuse cases just shooting each other.

Oh sure, they put him on leave and apologized after CNN made the
video public. 2 years after it was created.

This guy was in their ranks for 35 years and nobody caught wind
of the problem, lol. Mr "If you don't want to get killed,
don't show up in front of me." just snuck riiiight under the
ole' radar. Crack investigators there, you betcha.
Either they are completely incompetent or he was.....among
peers. You pick.

I'm surprised people can't see the hypocrisy of their own views.
Stereotyping blacks is a bad thing. Stereotyping cops is a
good thing. I'm sure all St Louis cops share his views. He's
also a member of the Army so I would assume you would think the
Army shares his views as well. The idea of stereotyping is
reprehensible at best IMO. All teenage blacks in Ferguson (or
to use your thread title St Louis County,) are cigar stealing
thugs who beat up on those half their size.
You have a video of a cop, I have a video of a thug. Same
difference.

Do you know if the department knew if the video was out there,
or not?

Almost every department, almost every work environment has a guy
similar to this. Here it is 35 years later and they still can't
get rid of him even after knowing his views. More than likely,
union representation has something to do with it. However, you
can't fire a guy because of his views. If his work performance
is good what do you suggest they do? Fire him because of this
tape? The union would never allow it and you know it.
I guess we can add your name to the rush to judgement list right
behind Rev F's

Either they did not know what this guy was like (thus my
"incompetent" comment), or did not care. I never said which it
was, I left that to you. I see you made your decision.
Interestingly, nowhere in your rant did you condemn this guy's
behavior. Only defend those who did nothing about it.
A policeman who says this sort of thing in public: "I hate
everybody. I'm into diversity. I kill everybody."
is frightening. Period. If he flew under the radar for 35
years, there is something seriously wrong with their radar.
Linda, he was speaking to a group named the "Oath Keepers".
The Oath Keepers draw their membership primarily from Police and
Military. Their members refuse to disarm American citizens
should the Feds order it, among other things.
A lot of county sheriffs belong, including Dave Mack of
Milwaukee county.
See the problem here? It's entirely likely* he said all this to
a room full of his fellow cops and ex-military. That's who the
"Oath Keepers" are. Yet nobody knew.
*since they won't release their St Louis chapter membership
list, we don't know yet.

Interestingly enough, I didn't feel I needed to comment on the
obvious. Interestingly enough I see you never said what could
and should be done. You can not fire a guy because of his
views. Especially in a union shop. This isn't defending anyone.
It's stating the obvious. What do you propose the Sheriffs
Dept do? What do you propose the Army do? You seem to not have
any answers to this.

the circumstances that allowed him to wear a badge for the last
35 years.

You can not fire a person for their views if they have a clean
work record, no matter how reprehensible those views may be,
especially in a union shop. Now that they have proof of what his
views are on the web, they still won't be able to fire them.
That doesn't mean he's "among peers" as you so broadly painted
in your opening post.

Rapids I think TS asks a valid question, should a company or in
this
case the government be able to fire a person for the viewpoints
they express outside of work? I find what this police officer
said offensive but isn't freedom of speech protected?

Absolutely it is.
The speech is protected, but that doesn't mean appropriate
precautions shouldn't be taken.
When it's a police officer with a badge and gun announcing his
love for killing, there should have been psychological testing.
They are doing that now, but it took national exposure and
embarrasment to make it happen.
Why did it take so long? Either they did not know, or did not
care. Neither option is excusable in a police force, is it?

How exactly should they St Louis county Sheriffs department
known about this you tube video? Should the St Louis County
Police should have someone spending their days checking to see
what their personnel post on social media sites?
And how much do you want to bet that NOTHING is done to this
officer, even after the national exposure?
