Starbucks offering tuition asistance

Meanwhile you still have the naysayers out there who don't like
it and are critical of the program. What do you think? This is
a program that has a chance of costing the company several
million of dollars.

I think it's a generous offer. It would be nice if more
employers offered the same.
Some people will criticize anything.

I find it surprising that they aren't requiring an employee to
stay on for X amount of months or years after graduation.

Interesting stuff this.
First of all I am surprised ASU is not claiming more of the
limelight, they are partners fronting 45% of the discount while
Starbucks is reimbursing their 55% after each completion of 21
credits, if you don't complete it, it's on you not Starbucks.
Then I really wonder if it's a good deal for our Wisconsin kids.
ASU charges $7500 per semester for the puter learnin program
and a Wisconsin kid can go to UWGB and live in the dorm with a
meal plan for $6500.
I'm sure it helps, but I'm gussin it will be much less than some
think.

Wouldn't the $7500 be reimbursed, while the $6500 is entirely
out of pocket? (assuming no grants)

I heard on the news yesterday that Starbucks will be raising its
prices. They said its due to the price of coffee beans going
up...which may very well be. The timing of this seems a little
bit to coincidental to me though.

Seems to work out the Starbucks program would reimburse about
3/4s. Just to change it around a little I looked up UWGB's
online only program, about $3500 per full load semester, less
than 1/2 of ASU's. A better comparison.
I like what Starbucks is doing, I just have reservations that
most kids will have the discipline to complete a 100% on line
program, especially in the Freshman and Sophomore years.
Jus sayin, ifin my daughter was 4 years younger and just lookin
instead of just graduating. If she could handle the online only
thing, I would recommend she pays the UW online thing up front
for the first two years then look at Starbucks and ASU for the
upperclassmen thing when the deal doubles.

I see that point. OTOH some may be more likely to complete it
sitting under Mom and Dad's supervision, instead of a dorm with
nightly keg parties. :D Which might also be the downside. No
college life.

I was looking at it from that perspective as well. Which of
course is why you only get a partial ride for those first couple
of years I s'pose. My main source of income is working at home
on the computer. It's pretty easy to say, Nah, too nice of a
day to work. That's nice til the paycheck rolls around.
