President again violates the law

and releases five senior Taliban officials to fight again.
Releasing them while not notifying Congress is a clear violation
of the law and is poor policy. Another sad day for the country.
There's a reason we don't negotiate with terrorists. I'm
afraid that this reason is going to come home again sometime in
the not too distant future. I've never been a fan of the
impeachment process but I'm starting to believe we're getting
closer and closer.

props. He is truly amoral.

We have armed drones flying in Qatar? Not that I know of. Of
course they won't be there long. People always remind me that
it took years to find Bin Laden. Imagine how many more American
lives we could lose in the meantime. How many more American
could be kidnapped. There is however always the chance that
these detainees have been rehabilitated right? ??? :'( :-[ :D

It just goes to show what I've been saying all along, nothing
Obama does will ever, ever make the modern conservatives happy.
Even freeing an American soldier from captivity will be met
with criticism.

So freeing one American even though it will lead to the deaths
of many more is a good thing F? Pretty pathetic even for you and
thats saying a lot.

Didja have a fit when Reagan did it? If not, kindly STFU.
I'm not saying its a good or a bad thing, but I am saying the
RWNJ outcry is as predictable as it is disgustingly obvious not
about the event and everything to do with the unreasoning hatred
for the president and anything he does.
Besides, lets keep it in perspective here. You assume their
going to go right back to lobbing bombs and plotting plots, even
though they'll be probably be suspected of leaking information
or otherwise tainted after their incarceration. They've
probably gone through years of "questioning" and probably have
had every last drop of information wrung out of em...as well as
tagged, documented, profiled and processed to the point they are
going to be more of a liability than an asset IF they did go
back to the taliban, and certainly not trusted by their former
allies.
Look at the prisoners we released.
The detainees are among the most senior Afghans still held at
the prison. They are:
—Abdul Haq Wasiq, who served as the Taliban deputy minister of
intelligence
—Mullah Norullah Nori, a senior Taliban commander in the
northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif when the Taliban fought U.S.
forces in late 2001
—Khairullah Khairkhwa, who served in various Taliban positions
including interior minister and had direct ties to Mullah Omar
and Osama bin Laden
—Mohammed Nabi, who served as chief of security for the Taliban
in Qalat, Afghanistan, and later worked as a radio operator for
the Taliban's communications office in Kabul
—Mohammad Fazl, whom Human Rights Watch says could be prosecuted
for war crimes for presiding over the mass killing of Shiite
Muslims in Afghanistan in 2000 and 2001 as the Taliban sought to
consolidate their control over the country.
Except for that last guy (who probably just should have be
shot), they probably aren't going to be trusted to do their jobs
again...you think high level guys are just going to go back to
the low level stuff.
Besides, they aren't going to be released straight back to the
field, they're being held in Qatar under a travel ban for a
year. Plenty of time to watch them and see who comes to say
"hello".

I was unaware of any one chastising Obama all these years for
not rescuing him.
While I am glad that he has been released I do see the dangers
that this precedence as set.
I also have serious issues with Obama's constant disregard of
our nation's laws and our Constitution over the years.
Obama believes he and his Administration is above the law.
I hope someday that he is held accountable of this.

Funny thing is Linda, I never heard anyone chastising Obama for
not getting this guy released. Another straw man fallacy. I
take it all those who are in favor of buying the release of this
guy were all for giving arms to the Contras.

I was and am against giving arms to the Contra's. You failed
to mention your stance on the topic. Since you're in favor of
this guy being released you must have been in favor of supplying
them arms.

This may come as a bit of a surprise to you but the "low level
stuff" more than likely includes killing Americans. If they
were going back to "low level stuff" why would they? The
Taliban wanted them released for a reason. I seriously doubt
your premise.

Yes you're probably right. Everyone knows your typical "low
level" Taliban are law abiding citizens of the country where
they reside. I'm sure these "low level" Taliban are no
exception.

(Taken from the NY Times, a source I'm pretty sure fits into
your narrow list of accepted sources) I'm sure they won't go
back to their old ways, being the rehabilititated terrorists
they are.
