Viva Chikara Shirt

Teespring.com is offering a shirt design of the icon that Icarus
is currently using on Twitter for $10, but only if 50 people
reserve the shirt. Since some of us who weren't in Easton can't
get a hold of the "I Am Chikara" shirts, I figure this would be
the next best thing...

Huh. So correct me if I'm wrong: the modified F.I.S.T. logo with
a CHIKARA kanji symbol on the wrist was whipped-up by some
random poster on the 101 shortly after Icarus posted his missive
about being in Easton last night. Then Icarus crops off all but
the top part of the kanji and replaces his twitter avatar with
that.
I don't know, like flying a kite a night, there's something
about charging money for this shirt that seems so unwholesome if
the proceeds aren't going to either Icarus or CHIKARA. On the
other hand, the F.I.S.T. symbol itself seems like it was largely
cribbed from "Hoo-hoo Robin, I invented everything. Tell 'em,
Fred" and from the "Black Power" movement before that.
So I guess to each his/her own. I, for one, got a quote for
around $350 for a quantity of 30 "NPA" embroidered ball-caps
that I've been mulling over, thinking it would be a larf to give
them them out before a Wrestling Is... show. The only thing
stopping me is that (1) Wrestling Is.../CHIKARA doesn't come to
where I live and (2) I wouldn't want to ruin a Wrestling Is...
show that was trying to be distinct by filling it with
references to another thing.
This is sorta unrelated, but does anyone imagine Icarus and
Quack reacting, after some of us (me included) assumed Icarus
going to Easton meant a secret CHIKARA show, "Dammit, these
idiots are idiotically pontificating that there's going to be a
secret show. Now I have to make a clarification." I can see them
getting frustrated that we keep assuming things, ruining what
seems to be slow-build.
Anyway, the shirt thing, It's not precisely the same, but it
would be like giving out ROH t-shirts to everyone before they go
to a TNA taping. It would ruin the TNA show and (however you
feel about TNA) disrespect the wrestlers performing. Either way,
never did I consider charging fans for those NPA hats; I've
always assumed that if I did, I would have to swallow the
expense for something like that.
Certainly, I don't want to flame anyone. We all make our own
choices and I simply thought the concept of fans making money,
if even just to cover expenses, off of other fans for something
derived from the object of their fandom deserved some
discussion. And I wouldn't bring it up elsewhere because I know
here, at least, that everyone posting has a good head on their
shoulders.
This also ties in to the greater social debate about
"crowdfunding" and how, in some cases crap movies get funded and
made where without crowdfunding, the movie would've rightfully
rejected by someone professionally in and with knowledge of the
movie industry. And then you have people who could afford to do
without crowdfunding (i.e. Zach Braff) arguably bilking their
fans into footing the bill for their vanity projects. On the
other hand, if fans of Veronica Mars and Garden State want
sequels and are willing to fund them, why should I care if I'm
not a fan of either and am not being forced to contribute? It
could be argued that some of the $9 I paid to see "Moneyball" in
2011 indirectly funded runny dumps like "Smurfs 2," both
distributed by the Columbia Pictures, whereas with crowdfunding,
I would be given the explicit choice or funding or not funding.
