I was curious about this too. I think we all just assumed it was
going to be a KOT-related announcement. But what if it wasn't?

Well the following day all the shows were canceled so that
turned out to be a huge announcement.

I remember in the weeks following the ippv, this is the one
thing that bothered me more than anything. Ok so you know you
are going to go dark and you are either legit shutting things
down or you are running a story where you are shutting down. Why
promise a big announcement you never intend on sharing? Why keep
the Sept date hidden up until just before the ippv, show it,
take it down again, then put it back up? It was the ultimate
tease and a bit of a jerk move. Was Chikara that desperate for a
few last minute ippv buys that they added a little promise such
as the announcement? I don't think so because it has become
somewhat of an expected thing for them to do at their bigger
shows especially the ippvs. They always make a big announcement.
It wasn't Sabato's appearance because he showed up unannounced.
The other thing that really upset me is what seems like the
"fake tour dates". The most troublesome being SD/ND weekend.
Again, seems like a cruel joke aimed at a potential new market.
You never intend to keep those dates so why announce them? Why
not make that weekend Reading? Reading crowd would be more
forgiving since they get Chikara all the time. And of coarse we
have California. Now if I lived as far as CA,ND, SD, or MN and I
found out that an East coast company was coming over for a visit
only to later find out its' cancelled, I would be crushed. Again
it seems like a cruel joke. Reseda will be ok. they have PWG but
the rest I Think will have a bad taste in their mouth as a
result

I while clearing out some papers from my folders I found the
envelope that I had received when I got my TWGP tickets. Inside
was a little promo card that listed where Chikara was going to
be.....up until June 1st. Nothing after that date. I didn't
think anything of it until now.

Actually that is not unusual for Chikara. I have been to a
number of shows and they have in the past many times handed out
promo cards featuring upcoming events but they only list a few.
They have done that for the past few years at It's just to
highlight the dates that are around the corner rather than
Chikara's entire schedule

The big announcement was the hoopla at the end and the stream
going dark. "Stay tuned" keeps people watching even if they were
tired or didn't plan to watch the last match (plenty of people
bail on a main event for one reason or another, either not
really caring about or liking the competitors, needing to sleep,
etc). I think it was simply to make sure that people were
watching the whole show, and no doubt grab some last minute ippv
sales.
I don't know if I ever said anything publicly about the whole
schedule getting cancelled controversy or not, but here's my
take:
When has Chikara ever announced an entire calendar of events at
the beginning of a season before? When have they ever done this,
especially in regards to shows in new markets far from home
base? Never. They aren't reserving arenas or huge venues.
They're renting halls for their events, and it's very rare that
any place would take a reservation a year in advance, especially
from anyone from the other side of the country. You can make
plans to travel to certain areas, but you don't go public about
it because there is always a good chance that these plans are
going to have to get changed leading up to the show when you
have THAT much time scheduled in advance.
From the moment they made the announcements that they were
hitting these locations, I was excited for Chikara but also
didn't understand how they pulled it off because like I said,
they aren't a big enough company that needs to reserve places
that far ahead of time and as someone who has booked events
myself, I know what a pain in the rump it can be booking a venue
just a couple of months ahead of time, let alone 8+ months
(Chris X can vouch for that since he has similar experience).
Think about it... If you are in charge of renting your venue and
you are asked to reserve it 8 months in advance for an event
that may draw up to 100 people but you really have no solid idea
what the draw will be, do you accept that booking or do you wait
because there's a good chance that someone else will want to
book the place for something like a wedding reception or
whatever and would definitely have more attendees than the small
wrestling show? Take into consideration that a lot of venues
sell food and drink and that's how they make a good deal of
money. It's not wise to lock yourself into a show that won't
guarantee you as much profit as another event might. I'm not
saying this is 100% the case or how the places they "booked"
operate, but most do. So it just felt really strange that
Chikara somehow made these big plans so far in advance.
Do I think it sucks for people living in these new markets to be
excited to finally see Chikara firsthand? Of course. It's a real
bummer and I know I'd be really ticked off if my hopes were
built up and then dashed like that. However, I still think it
was rather silly for people to make vacation plans without
having secured tickets first.
So there's that... /blahblahs

The advanced schedule however did make some sense to me. I knew
they didn't have anything officially booked because they never
even announced venues. But there was a growing demand over the
last couple years for Chikara to start giving more advance
notice of shows. They even had a poll asking fans how much
advance notice we wanted. So for me, it made sense. You don't
need to have your signature on the dotted line. If you know you
plan to travel to CA and you might be teaming up with another
promotion like PWG or whatever to help you make it happen then
you know you will deal with the venue when the time comes. So
it's not far fetched and I don't think that was a sign we should
have noticed that something was wrong. It felt like the
opposite. I was so excited that Chikara was giving us more info
because it helps someone like me who lives out of state and has
a job that schedules 6 months in advance. It helped me book
vacations around Chikara shows. In fact that's how I BARELY made
it under the wire when I booked my trip for KOT. When KOT was
announced, I had like a day left to request off for ALL of Fall
and Winter of 2012. So I was very lucky. I just took it all as a
good sign that Chikara was alive and healthy.
Except for of coarse the fact that they booked ND and SD. That
was weird lol I was jealous. Cleveland had been getting almost
annual shows (except for 2009). And we didn't get a date. :(
but again I just trusted Chikara knew what they were doing.
