as i am reading ubiquitously i am seeing very little love for
akuma. am i the only one that really enjoys his work? my only
complaint is i think i prefer him as a heel. anyone have any
thoughts on how you would like to see him booked in chikara once
everything is back to normal or anyone you would like to see him
       wrestle?
i am seeing a similar reaction to 3.0 and i really enjoy them.
       maybe i am nuts.
       * a nice blog with some cool stuff about both 3.0 and akuma

Akuma definitely works better as a heel; he just does not have
the charisma to carry a face persona. He works better as a
no-gimmicks-needed asskicker type, silent but deadly.
And one problem I had with his return as a face - much was made
of his betrayal of CHIKARA in DGUSA, when he came back to the
ring after the CHIKARA showcase match at the first iPPV, when
YAMATO was in the ring running down/disrespecting CHIKARA.
Instead of helping his fellow CHIKARA workers, he kicked Quack
in the yambag and aligned himself with YAMATO, joining Kamikaze
USA; feuding with Quack and Jigsaw over the next few shows. So
he returns to CHIKARA and chases Icarus around for a couple
months. Anyone facing Icarus at that point would get instant
cheers, but at the very least, the betrayal should have been
addressed and some story development could have been used to
have him gain everyone's trust and prove himself. Would have
given him something to do because after the ladder match with
Icarus (which was AWESOME), his character was extremely stagnant
and stale and boring. He's very good in the ring, but it's hard
to care about him as a character. Finding him some ways to prove
himself and interact with the other tecnicos would have given
him some substance and maybe I'd have given a shit about
anything he's done since he came back.

Yes, strong in-ring worker but not much character / personality.
Akuma doesn't even have a shirt to sell. He just shows up,
wrestles, goes home. He doesn't really market himself at all. I
think that's a big reason that people just don't give him much
thought, which is a shame because he's a nice guy and can put on
a great match. Ultimately, they need to put him into a feud
where he can get some spotlight, even if it is just as an
enforcer-type role. It can work as a face or heel as long as
he's standing for a cause. Hey, this resurrection of CHIKARA
could be a golden opportunity as he could realign himself with
Icarus and stand against Wink and his buddies. Akuma doesn't
need to get on the mic, he just needs a cause to fight for and
let his feet do the talking.
