The experience for these people is often horrific. They pay
coyotes large sums of money to lead them across the border, but
once inside the US the migrants are sometimes abandoned or
killed. Many die in overheated transport trucks or from
dehydration in the desert. Women are sometimes assaulted and
left alone. Our Border Patrol can't keep up with the numbers who
are crossing.
Most people have no idea what is happening to many of these
women who are illegally crossing the southern border. They have
a long journey and they are often abused or killed by the people
who were paid to guide them across the border. I have no doubt
that Jane Doe was probably raped and killed in the remote desert
area on the Tohono O’Odham Reservation. Her coyote probably
collected his considerable fee at the border and murdered her,
once they crossed into the U.S. This happens on a regular basis
with the coyotes.
