CASSVILLE, Mo. -- The Barry County Sheriff's Office is asking
for your help in identifying skeletal remains.
According to Detective Doug Henry with the Barry County
Sheriff's Office, the remains were found on March 26. However,
the sheriff's office decided to ask for the public's help in
identifying them for the first time on Tuesday, May 1.
Henry says a landowner found the skeletal remains on his
property in a remote area. The location is near Jenkins around
Farm Road 2120.
The sheriff's office sent the remains to the University of North
Texas for DNA testing, however the tests have not found anything
positive at this time.
Detectives have also contacted family members of people on their
missing persons list, but no one has been able to identify the
remains. Because nearly two weeks have passed since the remains
were found, the sheriff's office has decided to ask the public
for help.
The skeletal remains had some jewelry with them and the
sheriff's office has released photos of the items in hopes that
someone will be able to help identify the victim. The rubber
watchband pictured in the photos is a NEFF brand band.
If you have any information in this case, please call the Barry
County Sheriff's Office at 417-847-6556.

Missouri authorities can't identify skeletal remains. Can this
jewelry offer a clue?
Five weeks after skeletal human remains were found in rural
southwest Missouri, authorities still don't have an ID — they
don't even know whether the person was a man or a woman. Now
investigators are hoping jewelry will provide an answer.
The Barry County, Mo., Sheriff's Office posted four photos on
its Facebook page Tuesday of jewelry the person was wearing at
the time of death: what appeared to be a Neff rubber watchband,
a metal bracelet and a bottle-cap-opener ring.
Authorities estimate the remains had been in a remote field near
Jenkins, Mo., "for two to five years." A landowner found the
remains on March 26, the sheriff's office told The Monett, Mo.,
Times.
KY3 reported that detectives checked with families of people
reported missing in the area and sent the remains to the
University of North Texas for DNA testing, but nothing yet has
led them to an answer.
Some Facebook commenters speculate the jewelry belonged to a
man.
The sheriff's office hopes social media will help identify the
victim. So far, the photos of the jewelry have been shared more
than 1,600 times on Facebook.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the
Barry County Sheriff's Office at 417-847-6556.

Southwest Missouri officials trying to ID human remains
JENKINS, Mo. • Authorities in southwest Missouri are
investigating after human skeletal remains were found in a rural
area, and they're asking for the public's help.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that the remains were found
March 26 by a landowner. The remains were found near Jenkins,
about 45 miles southwest of Springfield. The Barry County
Sheriff's Office recently posted photos on its Facebook page of
jewelry found with the body in hopes that someone might
recognize it.
The items include a bracelet, a bottle opener ring and a rubber
NEFF-brand watchband.

A forensic dentist says it appears the person was an adult, but
investigators have not yet determined if the remains are that of
a man or woman.
Detective Doug Henry says the circumstances of the person's
death are considered suspicious. Police believe the body has
been at the location for two to five years.
