Detectives seek public's help to identify woman in 2004 Collier
       cold case
The Collier County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's
help to identify a woman whose remains were found in a wooded
area in Golden Gate Estates more than 13 years ago.
Detectives revisited the 2004 cold case this month "thanks to
improvements in facial reconstruction technology" and released a
new composite sketch of the unidentified woman, the Sheriff's
Office said in a news release Monday.
On April 14, 2004, a deputy who had parked and exited his
cruiser to make a phone call spotted the woman's partially
buried skull at a construction site for a new retention pond at
Richards Street and Immokalee Road, according to the Sheriff's
       Office.
"The remains were buried in a shallow grave and wrapped in a
green shower curtain," the release states. "It is estimated the
woman had been dead for more than a year when the remains were
       found."
The Collier County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide
but could not determine a cause of death, the Sheriff's Office
       said.
A forensic artist drew a partial sketch of the woman's face in
2009, the release states. The artist could not create a full
rendering, because the woman's jaw and skull were damaged,
       according to the release.
The newly released composite "features a reconstruction of the
entire face," the Sheriff's Office said.
Detectives said they believe the woman was white, between 5 feet
1 inch and 5 feet 6 inches tall and between 30 and 40 years old
       when she died.
The sweatshirt the woman was wearing at the time of her death
was from a brand called Favorites and had black stitching with
light blue and pink coloring, the release states.
The woman's sneakers were size 7.5 B, featured "the Olympics
rings logo" and had silver and light blue coloring on the heel
and the words "Olympics" and "USA" on the back, according to the
       release.
Anyone who recognizes the woman or has information about the
case is asked to call Homicide Detective William Still at
       239-252-0057.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at
       800-780-TIPS (8477).
