A Gift, of Memories

Natasha waited patiently at her personal balcony, sitting alone
on the bench as she overlooked her castle; so peaceful now, with
the separatist uprising over, and peace finally restored. How
terribly everything could have ended, how torn she could have
been. She had almost lost everything; her castle, her kingdom...
her friends... She leaned forward and sniffled at the thought,
not able to truly bear it. She had been queen for only a couple
months, but she would not dare let this go. She wanted to bring
the kingdom back, to restore it to it's splendor. The people of
Dremsilaar deserved a chance to finally flourish again.
Perhaps, though, the most terrifying possibility... Was losing
Shadow. No, not perhaps, but for certain. He had been so kind to
her, and spoke of how she reminded him of Maria, who once had
also made him happy and hopeful. And in turn, it had made her
just as happy, to see the shining of his eyes; the way he
blushed and smiled when she was around, she adored it. How could
she have lived knowing she would never see that again if the
Darkshade had been successful?.. No, she couldn't... That's why
she had sent a steward for him... She wanted to hold him tight,
to never let go... And perhaps his smile would bring relief to
her heart, so strained and worried.
She just wanted to see that precious face of his...

Shadow was silent as he approached Natasha's balcony, wondering
why a steward had asked for him.
The past two to three days were absolute hell because of the
separatists, the parasites.. He'd went back to Westopolis the
day before after discussing with Rose, and he and Lori finished
up the cleanup and de-worming everyone in Westopolis together,
then bringing all of the separatist defects to be cleared by GUN
due to what happened, minus Dawntail and Daniel, the former
staying in Miana/Dremsilaar, the latter being imprisoned by GUN
due to reviving Darkshade, attacking the queen and most of those
who were with her, ordering attacks... He was taking the blow
for himself and Darkshade only; The Commander thought it better
for Dawntail to be dealt with further by Queen Natasha..
But Shadow had gotten this from Tamwyn, who had stayed in
Westopolis with Lori to interrogate Daniel, and had come back,
because, well... He was becoming quite fond of Natasha, who had
been sort of stuck in his thoughts ever since defeating
Darkshade.
"Natasha, are you here? I've returned.." he said, looking around
a bit for her before his crimson eyes lit up upon seeing her,
his muzzle showing a small smile.

The queen glanced over and a glimmer in her eye shone as Shadow
came into sight; there was that smile of his. "Hey, Shadow..."
She smiled back, standing and walking over to him, taking hold
of his hands and letting a tear drip down her cheeks. "I... I
missed you..." Without so much as a warning, she rushed forward
and hugged him, squeezing him close; her grip was strong, but
her touch was soft and gently. Perhaps that was just her
gluttonous appetite making her a walking pillow, but either way
her embrace was a loving and comfortable one. She nuzzled her
cheek against his, eventually kissing it. "I'm so glad I can see
you again..."

"Heh.. I'd come back if it meant you'd be safe.. Don't cry yet.
This is a time for being happy because of the peace, yes?"
Shadow replied, before hugging Natasha back, his smile now quite
big as he was kissed on the cheek. It was indeed good to see the
Queen again after what had happened, but it was great to feel
her soft fur again..
He also was wondering.. What had happened to the others after
everything?
"Oh, I forgot.. Why exactly, outside of seeing me again, was I
brought here? Is there something you wish to tell or show me?"

"I..." Natasha paused; that had been part of why he had sent for
him, she should have been more prepared. "I do have something to
ask, actually..." Slowly she let go of him, rubbing by his
shoulder as she sat on her bed, a tense look in her eyes. Not
tense in a bad way, one could easily see, but in an anxious way.
She felt like she had eaten a swarm of butterflies, and it
showed in how she nervously rubbed her stomach. "I-I wanted to
ask... if you'd stay here with me... At least for a little..."
She looked to his eyes, her own glimmering with tears of anxiety
and hope, as she continued on. "I-I've realized that I... I...
Oh, why is it so hard for me to say it?.. I..." She continued to
stammer, unable to bring herself to finish the sentence, until
she somehow managed to blurt it out; "I think I'm in love with
you... No... I am in love with you..." Her cheeks shone like
bright apples in the sunlight, and she couldn't keep her eyes
open as she hugged her arms in anticipation; what was he going
to say?

Shadow's face became the brightest, most red blush he'd ever had
as he heard all of that, his crimson eyes widened in surprise.
He had the fleeting feeling of what Natasha meant by you'd stay
here with me..
He, too, felt quite nervous about all this, rubbing the back of
his head for a bit before he decided to answer.
"Well... Yes. I'll stay, Natasha. Because... I'm in love with
you too!" he said, before he gently grabbed her and kissed her,
lightly on the lips, but for an extended moment..

As his lips met hers, she nearly gasped; The kiss surprised her,
but more so because of what Shadow had said just before it. I'm
in love with you too! This entire time, they had been in love
with each other, and they had both been too nervous or shy to
say anything to each other. Knowing no other way to respond, she
pulled him close and held the kiss for a long moment; it felt
like hours in her head, but who knew at this point. When she
finally pulled away, she smiled and looked to Shadow for a
moment; then, being the child at heart she was, she pulled him
close and hugged him tightly, falling backwards into the comfort
of her bed as she squeezed Shadow against her soft, paunchy
body. Tears streamed down her cheeks, and she purred lightly;
she couldn't have asked for anything more.

As they fell into her bed while Natasha hugged him, Shadow
smiled brightly after she began to purr, his ears and only his
ears going a sort pink as he nuzzled her in response. To be
honest, he didn't know this would happen, but at least this was
how it happened.. His feelings were now revealed, but he left
like he'd have to hide it around the others if they, too
returned..

That's when Natasha remembered something; something very
important. "Um, Shadow... Just one thing, um..." She let go of
him and sat up, holding his hand gently as he was positioned
upwards beside her. "I... When I became queen, the kingdom was
in a rough spot... Crime was rampant, and I was forced to...
improvise." Her face went bright red in worry as she glanced to
the side, not sure if this new information would make him
reconsider everything... "I... It'd probably be easier to just
show you, b-but I think I can explain it."

"Natasha..? What do you mean?" Shadow asked in confusion as he
was pulled upright, raising an eyebrow at Natasha's strange
behavior. He wanted to know why she was acting like this, and he
bet it had to do with what he'd heard on his first night here,
that noise..
"Natasha, maybe it's best if you do show me.. Do you have powers
you never told me?"
