       A Feast for the Phoenix
   DIR By: Natasha

It had been not too long since the separatist uprising had
occurred. With everything that happened, Natasha felt indebted
to her friends; they had done so much to help her, without much
       of a thought. One particular friend, though, had stood out;
Darkenlight. The phoenix had been a loyal friend for years, and
now he had even helped save her kingdom. How could she ever
repay him for his friendship? Well, she had gotten an idea after
the ordeal at the theatre... Now there was just the problem of
seeing if he would enjoy her gift. She had sent him a notice,
specifically telling her steward to physically hand it to him so
there wouldn't be a repeat of before. Now, she just waited
patiently in front of of a new addition to the castle; one made
       specifically for this occasion.

The sound of wings flapping came as Darkenlight landed just
outside the castle, sitting the steward down gently. The
Phoenix had picked up the poor Mobian upon reading the notice.
In any case, he waited to be lead to this surprise when
something covered his eyes and nose. He let out a shriek and
started to fight, blindly swinging as his Aura Sight wasn't
       working at the moment.

Seeing Darkenlight flailing about, Natasha quickly rushed out to
him; "Darkenlight, calm down; it's just a blindfold! I have a
surprise gift for you!" She waved the steward off, gently taking
the phoenix's hands in her own, her touch unmistakable. "Come
now, the sooner we get there, the sooner you can take off the
blindfold..." Carefully she pulled him along, hoping he would
calm down enough to be taken to the surprise; it had taken days
to prepare it, and she dearly wanted him to receive his gift.

Natasha's voice and touch calmed him immediately, well minus his
flaps of irritation. Darkenlight attempted to try to listen for
his surprise, not knowing what it was made him all so very
       curious.

Gently, the queen pulled her friend along, stopping at a
lavishly carved wooden door, pulling the blindfold from
Darkenlight's face carefully. "Alright... Open it," she
       whispered gingerly.

Darkenlight, upon getting that blindfold off, took of the
infernal device that was blocking his sense of smell. He stared
at the door a bit before running a hand over its surface,
tracing the markings with his fingers. After he finished
tracing it, memorizing every marking down to the finest detail,
only then did he open it. It was slow and cautious, much like a
child about to go into a dark basement or a new room that has
just been discovered. His ears perked, lowered, and perked
again, this Phoenix would be interesting to study if anyone
       wanted to.

Studying him, Natasha was. He was quite the enigma, and the
queen did enjoy his exquisite company dearly. Still, she was
anxious to see his reaction as he opened the door. Behind the
decorated door was a massive room, one that Natasha herself
might have called her own, with a massive silk covered bed of
violet and pink, which was enraptured with light from several
large windows. Scattered around it, however, was a treat only
Darkenlight would be fond of; several carefully preserved tons
of half-rotten carrion. Right beside it, there were gallons upon
gallons of mead, which Natasha knew he had grown quite fond of.
She smiled as she stepped beside him, looking to him; "Welcome
       to your personal retreat, dear."

Darkenlight looked around, sniffing the air, and was that smile
on his face? He sniffed the air before suddenly taking flight,
going to the highest perch in the room. Finding one of those
mounds of carrion, taking a chunk out of it before flying to the
many windows and perching there. "Thank you, I could use a
place to roost for a few days," he finally spoke, after
swallowing that chunk of carrion of course. Darkenlight felt
safe and secure here, he trusted Natasha and Ajax a great deal.
In a way, they'd become his family in the short months they knew
       each other.

"Well, with how much you helped us with saving the kingdom," she
started with a sway in her stance, "It only felt right to do
this for you. The windows were made specifically so you could
always see the sun and moon, and... With how fond you seemed of
the mead, I took the liberty of getting several dozen gallons
worth." She walked up to below where Darkenlight was perched,
smiling back as she had noticed the joy in his face. "This is a
permanent room, just for you." She glanced about the room; she
had done everything she could to make sure it was heaven for
him, but she almost forgot one detail. "Oh, and one more
thing... I have instructed my chefs to store any and all rotten
foods we have; should the supply in here run out, the stewards
       can bring you more."

"You didn't have to go to this much trouble just for me," the
violet phoenix replied with a slight blush. However he did
wonder what she meant by 'permanent room' since he didn't like
feeling of being caged. This ancient bird was still very young
and liked to be able to fly free. His stomach growled, no
surprise there as he hadn't eaten since helping Natasha save her
kingdom. "Sometimes I wish my appetite shrunk to fit this shell
of a form," Darkenlight muttered as he stared at his stomach.
If one could imagine a vulture-like bird that was probably half
the size of that room and then some, they could understand his
       pain.
