The Abandoned Baby Dragon
DIR By: Dawn Soleil

The sun began to rise over the horizon, signalling a new day on
the planet. Birds began to sing, as if to act as a natural alarm
to alert other living creatures that morning had arrived. It
would seem like another regular day on Mobius...
However, to anyone who would appear, today would not be any
other day; sitting in a small rocky alcove sat a large but lone
egg. It was in a nest made of dried grasses, sticks, feathers
and even bones...but it was by itself. Didn't it have a parent
to look after it? Why was it alone? Was it abandoned? It
appeared to be healthy, not to mention well taken care of, to an
extent. So how...?
The egg suddenly twitched, a soft knocking could be heard within
the shell. What ever was in the egg was about to hatch soon...

The first to have seen the lone egg was Ajax, who curiously
climbed to the top of the alcove to investigate. It was a rather
large egg, so it seemed unlikely that it was from any bird. What
possibly could have left an egg like this? And why would it
abandon the poor thing? "Alrighty, let's get a look at'cha."
Carefully, the lynx inspected the egg, listening carefully as it
heard the inside being tapped away at; whatever it was, it
looked like it was going to hatch soon.

The sound of wings flapping soon came through the air, was it
the parents? Nope it was the violet Phoenix known as
Darkenlight. He saw the egg and was curious, it had been quite
some time since he had seen one that was around the since of a
Phoenix egg. He landed in a tree next to Ajax and tilted his
head as he watched him with the egg. Wait, Darkenlight was a
bird right? Maybe he could help with this egg, heck maybe it was
a Phoenix egg. In any case, it was a good thing he was there.

There was another knock against the shell - the egg even
wriggled a little before it went still again. While the egg
appeared to be close to hatching, what ever was inside didn't
seem to have enough strength or energy to break out of the egg
just yet. It would need more time...maybe a day or two.

Blaze and Veira traveled the area for quite for some time now
and had heard the sound of wings flapping before seeing the
purple pheonix perch himself on a tree nearby. Upon closing look
they also noticed Ajax with a very large egg. With a slight
whistle, Blaze came over to where Ajax and Darkenlight were. "
That's some egg..." he replied o the lynx.

"Yeah, well, it's got no parents in sight, and the little nugget
seems to be getting ready to hatch." Gently, Ajax picked up the
egg, knowing that it would not be able to survive a night out
here alone; if some natural predator didn't come along, then the
cold would get to it. "This poor thing ain't gonna survive a
night alone; I'm thinking we should take it and try to keep it
safe, see if we can get it to hatch. What do you guys think?" He
looked to Darkenlight for a moment, but the phoenix surely had
little more than instinct to help them; still, that was better
than nothing.

"Judging by the size and your confused faces, it's a Phoenix
egg," Darkenlight proclaimed proudly as he glided to the ground,
"Thus we have to keep it warm until it has enough strength to
beak it's way out. Though I do wonder how it got here, Father
wouldn't let an egg leave the hatchery unless it was on
purpose....or my elder sister laid it....which raises the
question on why she abandoned it as that's against her nature.
And yes we need to care for it, obviously Fate wants us to
protect it." He noticed the hedgewolf and his companion,
flapping his wings for a bit before closing them.

Blaze looked at the egg a bit more before Darkenlight mentioned
i was a phenoix egg. Veira found that a bit hard to beleve
before throwing up a suggestion. " You sure that's a bird
egg...i never seen one that big before. Birds don't sit in caves
last time i checked.." Veira asked with a raised eyebrow.

Ajax rolled his eyes at Darkenlight's bold claim; he sure seemed
confident, although the lynx himself was somewhat skeptical.
Still, stranger things may have happened. "Well, phoenix or not,
I'm not leaving it out here to freeze or get eaten by some wild
animal." Carrying the egg gently, he climbed down from the
alcove and set his feet on the firm ground beside Blaze. "I'm
going to take this thing home, and see if I can't take care of
it while we look for it's parents. If you guys feel like tagging
alone, then whatever, I'm not gonna stop ya." With that, off he
started, egg in hand.

Darkenlight took to the air again and looked at Veira. "Keep in
mind that my true form is huge and I hatched from an egg that
size," he retorted before going after Ajax. "I'll help keep it
warm, Mother taught me how," he called down to the lynx. Well
you can't say that Darkenlight's parents didn't prepare him for
the trials of parenthood.
