deep's busy, so here's a paranormal tip of the day from yours
truly, the monster mama: you can tell a lot about a creature by
how it smells. it is truly one of the most disgusting
experiences in the universe, but upon meeting something new and
unusual, take a big ol' whiff. sometimes you can pick up where
it came from (ex: if it smells like literal human feces, it's
probably either living in or moving through the sewers) or what
type of thing it is (ex: sulfur = demonic, as we have talked
about previously). plus, if it's something that disguises
itself, smell is hard to change once you shift.
one of my best stories involving this was a shape-shifting
eldritch horror... disguised as a baby. smelled like a swamp and
the unknowable instead of baby powder and shit. can't make this
stuff up.
