       The train system is sometimes referred to as 'L-gauge' among
       Lego fans, in reference to traditional model railway scales.
       Lego trains use a nominal gauge of 37.5 mm (115⁄32 in),
       based on 5-stud track centerlines gauge, corresponding with a
       circa 1:38 scale.
       There are different sizes of lego trains that can be built. They
       can range from 5 stud wide to 8 or even 10 stud wide. Depending
       on who is building it and the amount of detail you want. The
       standard lego size is 6 stud wide because that's what the lego
       company made standard with their trains. As time went on
       builders started to expand out to 8 wide and beyond. In this
       thread you will find all kind of creations from builders.
       Breakdown
       6 Wide - Narrow Gauge ( This can also be used as standard gauge
       if you don't build in 8 wide therefor making 5 stud and below
       narrow gauge )
       8 Wide - Standard Gauge
       10 Wide and above would be considered Standard Gauge as well
